In 1926, life was good for Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne) and his wife, Gerda (Alicia Vikander). The couple lived comfortably in Copenhagen as aspiring artists; Einar specialized in landscapes, and Gerda painted portraits. When not working, they enjoyed a lively social life, hobnobbing with the city’s social elite and members of the arts community, such as their good friend, Ulla (Amber Heard), a colorful though somewhat flighty ballet dancer. But, above all, they were madly in love with one another. They were also anxious to start a family, a process that wasn’t going too well (but at which they nevertheless kept trying).

‘Kumiko’ maintains ‘never lose sight of your dreams’
by Brent Marchant April 3, 2015Kumiko (Rinko Kikuchi) is bored by her life. As a twenty-something Tokyo “office lady,” she sees herself stuck in a dead-end job. She quietly detests the demands and intrusiveness of her condescending boss, Mr. Sakagami (Nobuyuke Katsube), and the incessant phone calls of her nagging mother (voiced by Yumiko Hioki). She’s even loath to address such everyday activities as keeping up her apartment, collecting her mail or spending time with a onetime acquaintance, Michi (Kanako Higashi). In fact, the only things that seem to give Kumiko any pleasure are caring for her pet rabbit, Bunzo, and her pursuit of an unusual hobby – treasure hunting.

‘Two Days, One Night’ implores ‘just ask’
by Brent Marchant February 14, 2015We’re all no doubt familiar with the expression “nothing ventured, nothing gained.” Meritorious ideas, as good as they might be, unfortunately often languish as untapped, unmaterialized potential, simply because no steps are taken to bring them into being. And, ironically enough, in many cases, those undertakings could easily get their starts through the simple act of asking to make them manifest. Such is the focus of the dramatic new release, “Two Days, One Night” (“Deux jours, une nuit”).

‘Samsara’ celebrates the power, beauty, glory of creation
by Brent Marchant September 14, 2012While “Samsara” has been rather loosely characterized as a “documentary,” that label doesn’t do the film justice. It’s more of a cinematic meditation, a reflection on our world and what’s gone into its creation in its present state. It consists of only images, music and occasional nature sounds, with no dialogue, narration or graphics.

READ: Dreams, preconceptions, identity under review in ‘Albert Nobbs’ by Brent Marchant
by Brent Marchant February 10, 2012Hotel waiter Albert Nobbs (Glenn Close) is an oft-described strange little man. But then that’s probably because he’s not a man at all. Rather, Albert is a middle-aged woman who, because of the need to fend for herself financially, has been intentionally disguising herself as a member of the opposite sex since she was 14.

READ: CONNECTION VS ISOLATION by Cynthia James
by Cynthia James December 23, 2011We all crave for connection. We long to love and be loved. Even those of us who have been hurt or abandoned secretly hope that someone will come along to prove to us that love is real and intimacy is achievable. That hope is the thing that keeps us searching. It is a yearning to touch, be seen and acknowledged. This yearning is often times covered with fear, doubt and skepticism. However, our true nature is linked to the wholeness of the universe and can never be extinguished.

READ: The Universe IS Your Friend by Hemal Radia
by Hemal Radia December 20, 2011When many go through challenges and strife, it may be very easy to believe that they are alone and that there is nothing and no one on their side. This can very much be an easy view to have from our ‘physical’ perspective. Especially when we have always been taught to only believe what we can see.
Law of Attraction expert Hemal Radia reminds you that the Universe is your friend. It loves and adores you and is always listening to you and on your side.

There is a Power within us. It is undeniable. Look around you at the vastness of this planet and of the Universe. This same Power created the Universe. This Power created the heavens and the earth. This Power created you and I. Some call It God, others call it Source Energy, some even call it Innate Intelligence. Whatever It is to you, It is power and It resides within you and you reside within It. You are an extension of this Innate Intelligence.

Often in life we’re asked to take things on faith, a practice for which we’re given no handbook at birth, leaving us to find our own way. That frequently makes for an intriguing journey, one that tests us on many fronts, especially when it comes to understanding and embracing that core issue of faith. But no matter what path we choose, it always helps to have inspiration to draw from, and one particularly thoughtful example of this is offered up in the new spiritual drama, “Higher Ground.”

by Hemal Radia October 5, 2011Your body, mind and spirit are communicating to you in every moment. They know what you need to do to have what you want. The way you know is by your congruence and incongruence – i.e. your “alignment” – within yourself.

Karma — Harmonious Coexistence With Our Environment
by VividLife Editorial September 26, 2011In the Hindu language the profoundly powerful word KARMA is used to identify this “Law of All Laws” – the “Cause and Effect Law of the Universe.” If we subscribe to the laws of karma, we are open to the possibility that there is no such a thing as a “coincidence.” In reality, coincidence is a predetermined course of synchronistic events.

Walking Meditation: Just You, Nature and The Universe
by Janice Chrysler September 7, 2011When was the last time you stood or sat outside and with your eyes shut really listened and identified all the sounds? You will be pleasantly surprised at how much you actually take in but equally amazed at how little you really acknowledge in your busy and hectic life. The great thing about this type of meditation is there is no special equipment necessary, only your willingness to get out there and allow your intuition to guide you, your senses to awaken and your soul to become one with nature and the Universe. This exercise can be done during the day or under the stars and moon. Try both and see what a difference it makes in your stillness.

his Universe is your friend. It cannot be any other way because you are an expression and an aspect of it. There is no separation between you and it. It is like your kidney disowning the rest of you. You are all and one, and interconnected. There are no hardships, boundaries or separations, other than those created.

Integration is the merging into oneness of one’s whole bio-energetic sphere, body, mind, emotion, and spirit. It is an ultimate centering and grounding of one’s small self into the larger Self. It is the ultimate augmentation of consciousness as is able to be in a three dimensional physical body.
