The year 2011 is coming quickly upon us. Too often people take New Years Resolutions very lightly. We say we will lose weight, but by March that was a thought of the past. Too often, my friends who work as personal trainers tell us how the gym is packed in January but dead by the beginning of March. We forget our bucket lists, and our goals to be better people, and we put ourselves last again. Well, this year must be different. 2011 is the year of a better you.
Ready, Set, Go!
Make January 1st your starting line to achieve your goals and dreams. Forget in the past how projects were unfinished or in some cases not even started. One of my favourite sayings, that is so simple but hits so close to home, is “today is the first day of the rest of your life.” Make this saying your mantra.
Forgiveness
Forgive yourself for not doing this sooner. It may sound cliché, but it is never too late for you to start! Put your goals first. Think about 2011 not as another year older, but think of it as a rebirth. This is the first day of the rest of your life, your first day as an enlightened you.
Where to Start?
Look at your goals, all of them. The big ones that involve saving money involve saving smaller amounts monthly for the year. When you break your goals into little pieces, they are much easier to accomplish then by keeping them as big goals. Write down all of the things you would like to accomplish this year and micromanage your steps so you can achieve your goal more easily. Spread the goals out so there is not a huge amount to do in a small amount of time.
Walk Across The Starting Line
We must realize that life will take its course. 2011 may be full of surprises, so we must all incorporate the chaos theory into our plan. For example, the weekend you decide to start jogging may be interrupted by sick children, an unplanned visit from friends or family, or other surprises. Take the time to realize that things may not start on the day you want, but always make time for yourself. Whether you wake up early for a quick 30 minute jog and go back to bed, or just start a renovation, slowly, room by room, the point is you are starting, and the new you will take a priority in the chaos we call life.
You Are A Gift
Remember, you owe it to yourself to accomplish your dreams and goals. You are a gift from God, and your happiness is needed by your family and friends. Many of us are the rock that keeps our family and friend ties together, therefore, your happiness and fulfillment is required. A fulfilled you is a better role model for the rest of us then an unfulfilled you. When others see you reach your goals, it will be inspiration for them to do so as well. When your children see their mother or father still trying new things and achieving their dreams, it shows them that they could as well, they learn a whole new process of working hard and reaping rewards, and they see their parents happy about their accomplishments. Nothing is as inspirational.
Happy New Year to all of my readers! I hope you have a blessed 2011. Over the holidays, I hope you give the gift of a fulfilled enlightened YOU to others. Today is the first day of the rest of our lives!
Lots of love and enlightenment for 2011!
