Sedona is world renowned not only for its magnificent red rocks but for the potent energy that emanates from the many vortexes all around the city. People travel from all over the world to experience the energy, meditate and learn more about the positive impact this sacred land has on their mind, body and spirit.
For the first time in Sedona, at 92 years old, television legend Norman Lear will appear at this year’s Sedona World Wisdom Days. The festival features world renowned experts in their field with innovative thought provoking live presentations.
Norman Lear, world renowned for his social commentary and controversial sitcoms, such as All in the Family, The Jefferson’s, Good Times, Maude and many more is the recipient of four Emmy awards, a Peabody, the National Medal of Arts presented by President Bill Clinton, founded the 300,000-member liberal advocacy group People For the American Way, was labeled the “no. 1 enemy of the American family” by Jerry Falwell, made it onto Richard Nixon’s “Enemies List”, purchased an original copy of the Declaration of Independence and toured it for ten years in all fifty states, and is best known for his great success in bringing divisive topics to network television. And at 92 years old, Lear just released his first book a memoir titled, Even This I Get to Experience.
Norman Lear’s television programs were viewed by 120 million people a week, with stories that dealt with serious issues such as racism, poverty, abortion, but still left audiences howling with laughter. He single-handedly directed network television away from the bland comedies and towards his brand of biting social and political humor – and the world loved it. Norman Lear used comedy and laughter to penetrate social barriers and helps people grow and heal through humor. Lear changed the conversation at the water cooler as people began openly talking about racism, being gay, abortion and other highly personal and challenging topics.
Norman Lear will open Sedona World Wisdom Days with a compelling conversation guided by two of his former sitcom stars Mackenzie Phillips and Geri Jewell. Lear will discuss how he was able to take very serious and intimate topics and magically weave them into his sitcoms in order to help people heal and laugh at otherwise difficult situations. United States President Bill Clinton stated, “Norman Lear has held up a mirror to American Society and changed the way we look at it.”
