Oprah sits down with Academy Award/Grammy Award-winning songwriter Paul Williams and screenwriter/author Tracey Jackson, who discuss their new book on addiction and recovery, “Gratitude and Trust: Six Affirmations That Will Change Your Life.” In the interview, each share a unique experience with addiction, Paul as a recovering alcoholic who has been sober for 24 years, and Tracey as someone who has been inspired by her friends in traditional recovery programs. Paul and Tracey believe that everyone, even the non-addict, struggles with life-limiting behaviors. Through these fear-based habits – including perfectionism, smartphone obsession, overeating, and fear of intimacy – we subconsciously stand in the way of our personal wholeness. The duo has created six affirmations, rooted in traditional principles of recovery, that they say can help viewers identify what is holding them back, break their dysfunctional patterns, and set out on a path toward a better version of themselves, while learning to evolve through trust and gratitude. Paul won an Oscar with Barbra Streisand for their song “Evergreen” in 1976 and co-wrote Kermit the Frog’s signature song “The Rainbow Connection” in 1979. Tracey is the screenwriter behind “The Guru” (2002) and “Confessions of a Shopaholic” (2009).
“Super Soul Sunday” with Paul Williams & Tracey Jackson airs Sunday, November 16 at 11 a.m. ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
