There is more than one way to save a planet.
It’s Earth Month. Time to blow your mind and debunk a few myths about planet saving!
Myth #1: You need to be an expert
Fact: Anyone can take the lead or be an inspiration. Was it Dr. Nedd who joked, “Feel helpless, complain a lot, you can only make a difference if you have a master’s in (fill in the blank)”?
There is no M.Sc. or PhD. in planet saving. (I suggest you simply turn off the TV.)
People don’t need to do exactly the same thing to make a difference. The change we need in the world is not linear. Make it your own, make it better!
Fact: Colin Beavan of No Impact Manonce said “Don’t waste your time checking me. Checking me is a waste of energy. The question is, moment by moment, how can you help? Time is short. Life is short. Don’t waste it in judgment. Judgment is not important. Judgment is only thinking. What’s important is that this world is suffering. So what can you do?”
Myth #3: Feel guilty because you’re not doing enough
Fact: Instead Margaret Wheatley asks “Who do we choose to be for this world?” and “When have you been fearless?” Someone has to be the first one on the dance floor (despite your Elaine Benes-style moves) —- why shouldn’t it be you?
