The Oxford English Dictionary defines forgiveness ‘to grant free pardon and to give up all claim on account of an offense or debt’. In spiritual terms, “giving up all claim” translates into relinquishing the personalization of events and interactions by removing yourself from the equation.
What if we could rid ourselves of all held claims of grievance against any person, place, or thing? What if we ripped up those “IOUs” we’ve been writing to keep track of who has and has not made satisfactory amends for perceived wrongs? What if we forgave everyone completely… including, and most importantly, ourselves? How would life be elevated and how much more space and light would be available for us to create anew in each moment?
What If There Were Nothing to Forgive?
What if everything bad, wrong, or offensive that anyone ever said or did to you was really only directed at them? What if these ‘perceived transgressors’ are only externalizing their internal feelings toward themselves?
I understand this may be challenging, but from a greater state of awareness you are simply witnessing what is spontaneously unfolding in each and every moment. In this scenario, nothing is being done to you – therefore there is nothing to forgive.
When you are watching a movie, regardless of how badly it is scripted, acted or directed you don’t demand an apology from the writers, actors, or director. In the same way, if you are simply witnessing your own life, why are you continually compelled to demand an apology for how your life is unfolding? Why require forgiveness from those whom you asked to play certain parts, or from a Universal Intelligence that allowed a life to develop in a certain manner?
Who’s to Blame?
- Why hold your ex-husband hostage for playing the Oscar nominated role of philandering, unscrupulous, jerk?
- Why demand that your self-centered, narcissistic boss acknowledge you for your hard work?
- Why petition God for the unimaginable devastation of a population in an area hit by unexpected tragedy?
- Why criticize, judge, blame and crucify yourself for being the only person in life that you can be?
Oneness is an all-inclusive state of experience in which all things are encompassed as a part of you; there is no transgressor and therefore there can be no transgression. For me, Jesus illustrated this most poignantly on the cross when he asked for God’s forgiveness of those who crucified him.
And Jesus said in Luke 23:34, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’
If you examine life through the lens of your limited perception, everything that is spontaneously occurring around you is happening specifically to you. In this state of limited awareness, you personalize everything and live in a perpetual state of victimhood.
At the level of your soul, life is unfolding exactly in the way that it needs to. At this level of experience there is a conscious acknowledgement that everything originates from the Divine, and as a result there is nothing to forgive. In the case of Jesus, one whose awareness was all encompassing, he recognized that those who persecuted him were operating from an entirely different level of consciousness than his.
Where are you still holding an individual’s inability to meet you in an expanded state of awareness against them? Not everyone has the same capacity to perceive reality in the way that you do, yet you continue to expect them to show up differently – which is impossible.
Forgiving It All
As we are being elevated into higher levels of energetic frequencies, we have the opportunity to shed the deepest layers of density of any betrayals, hurts, or upsets that we are yet holding onto and refusing to let go. We can transform our prior grievances into grace and be thankful for the role everyone has played so well for us – thanking all of our former transgressors “for giving” us such profound experiences and opportunities for growth.
Let’s unite and focus on forgiveness and its vibrational impact on all of our lives. Let’s step completely out of the cycle of shame, guilt, past transgressions, and the ongoing pattern of pain so that we can come into a clean, high vibration where we allow our full light to shine through and generate the greatest possibilities for everyone on this planet.
