What if?….are two powerful words that set our minds abuzz with possibility. Sometimes we use them to our benefit, creating options that open entire worlds to us. Other times, we limit ourselves by adding on two additional words that can sabotage our success and forward movement….if only….that have a wistful feeling to them.
Author Betsy Otter Thompson who was my guest on It’s All About Relationships on Thursday and spoke with great enthusiasm about the series of events that launched her into the life that she is now living. Because she listened with open heart, mind and ears, this message came through loud and clear: “The universe said; If you’re ready, we’re ready.” Just what that meant, she wasn’t quite sure, but that invitation took her from the mainstream (modeling and working with the CEO/COO of Castle Rock Entertainment and then Warner Brothers.) to the metaphysical.
Her books include: WALKING THROUGH ILLUSION, published by 0-Books, THE MIRROR THEORY, published by Hampton Roads, LOVEPARENT, LOVEHUMAN, YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK, and The WHAT HAPPENS IF I…Book
It is the last book that was the primary subject of our laughter filled conversation even as we spoke about controversial subjects such as returning hate with love, abuse, trauma and forgiveness. Betsy shared that “Everyone that comes into our lives is an emotional mirror and a gift to us.”
A Course In Miracles is part of what informs Otter Thompson’s message and life. Our connection is through a community here in Bucks County, PA called Circle of Miracles in which that book series is an influence as well.
We need only to look at what is happening and ask how this is a reflection of our thoughts, beliefs, feelings or actions. Sometimes we act unconsciously, but she finds that “Awareness is 99% of the battle. That’s how the universe works.” Once we are mindful, we then have a choice about what we do with the information.
As much as we say we desire harmony in our world, it comes wrapped up in the idea that “Peace isn’t going to come until everyone finds peace within themselves.” Begin within is a mantra that assists in reinforcing that idea. Karmic intention is powerful: “If you don’t want to be on the other end of it, you don’t want to be giving it.”
