“Bless the things that hurt us”
Seva? What does that mean? Why have I heard that word more frequently in the last year? Could it be from the rising economic catastrophe? The lack of ethics in multi-national corporations who only care about making more money in this quarter then five years from now? Just to boost their exorbitant bonuses! The minimum wage is less than the living wage yet white collar criminals get bailouts from governments to keep their Manhattan penthouses while their clients get foreclosed and booted out of their modest homes.
If I sound a little ticked off this column. It is because I am. It seems that some corporations are too big to fail yet their clients can fail and no one thinks twice. The few greedy people who put us in this mess are motivated by money. The Bible talks about “Money being the root of all evil.” Most people will probably agree with that statement. I believe we either put positive or negative energy into this world. A few’s negative energy caused a lot of pain.
Time to go positive! Regular readers of my column know that I believe we receive what we give. That is the definition of Seva. Seva means selfless service. We are seeing this from charitable organizations and humans who care about others. To be altruistic is to give without the slightest expectation of getting something in return. God is seen in being there for each other.
Action Exercise:
Tap into your inner spirit and help others. Deep down we are all perfect. Some decide to ignore their true nature and do harm to others. Pray that others can become aware of their true divinity. We are all in this world together. This planet rises and falls on what energy we put out into the world.

‘Money being the root of all evil’ Money like a knife is just an object— its our thoughts that could decide wheter its evil or for the good.We need to examine our needs, thougts and the our actions that have originated from them rather than blame money.
We will be heart-centric soon… it’s a fundamental necessity for life to continue. If the pendulum can’t swing back to spirit and source from ego… No matter. It will.
Think of money as resource, for building hospitals, school, genarating welth is not bad, reach people are also good by heart, our seva is diverting this money,by
convincing them for good selfless cause, not misusing
this is attainable if we can connect them witin them & there devine heart …sole
one globe, one word,one mind

Sir, I firmly believe most of your anger is directed in the incorrect manner.
Corporations are in business to meet people’s needs and to produce a profit while doing so. From an individual level, it is of great value for someone to be able to take $10 of input and combine it with their unique talents to produce something someone will exchange $20 for the product they create. Corporations do this on a larger scale. However, the corporations are not the providers of bailouts. All bailouts come from Government, and it is the elected officials who have chosen to save companies while letting individuals suffer who elected these officials to represent them.
Is it not shareholders who demand quarterly performance from companies in this age of immediate gratification? To not meet these shareholder demands, the stock is sold because these shareholders have no longer term interest in the company. They are there only for the ‘ride’ and will find another opportunity. It is company employees, including upper executives, who have a long term interest in making the company successful.
Was it altruism that motivated millions of individuals to purchase homes with no money down and interest only loans? Or was it opportunism?
Who exactly are the ‘few greedy people that put us in this mess’? Do you realize it is government, specifically Bill Clinton and a Republican Congress, who repealed Glass Steagall. This act was put in place during the Great Depression in 1933 to separate powers from investment houses and banking institutions. The complex financial derivatives which contributed to this ‘mess’ would never been allowed to be created and sold by banks if this act was not repealed.
Making generalized comments about an issue only furthers the misunderstanding of the problems. And if you would like to listen to an excellent piece about the minimum wage (another point I disagree with you on), search google for Milton Friedman and that subject. Also, if you decide to look into that topic I also suggest his interview with Phil Donohue. They are both short, informative Youtube videos.
Since I realize your heart is in the right place, I decided to make these comments instead of simply closing the browser after reading your column.
Although my comments are in contrast to your opinions, I hope you understand that one of the things which is great about this country is that we have the right to disagree.
One thing we do both agree upon is that service to others is a very high value.
Best wishes in the future.
