Super People
She can organize any event, she can take care of her children, hold down a job and keep her house tidy. Have a personal problem? Do not dispair, she is there! A new charity your work is organizing to fund? Super girl will organize it…and balance a full work week, and keep her house tidy, pick up those kids and help out the family and run those thousand or so errands.
To my super girls, super women and super men, you are in good company. Lately, we have all been pulling off miracles. We may skip breakfasts to get the job done, but we do it. We could stay up until one in the morning planning the latest task or organizing the latest venture but we pull it off without a hitch. Years only seem like weeks because time is going so quickly and a quick glance in the mirror, we realize with surprise that an overworked tired person stares back at us. Never fear, we super people can fix that! Wait, can we?
A word that is not in a super person’s vocabulary is “no.” What does that mean? Not right now, not this way, but never no. We can do anything! To my super people who pull off huge problems every day, I tell you, no is not a bad word.
We can still be “super” and be human. It is okay to make mistakes. It’s okay to say “no” to someone who needs yet another big favor from you. It’s alright to do something for you.
Grant Yourself Permission
Allow yourself to decide which tasks you can accomplish, which you will need help for, and which you cannot do all together. It’s okay to say “no” to the needy friend who seems to be using you then just being in trouble. It’s also alright for your children to take on tasks themselves rather then you watching them; especially if they’re teenagers. Allowing your family to have some control gives them the chance to spread their wings. Ultimately, needy friends and family are not being taught the skills of independence and never getting the feeling of accomplishment once a task is completed. In your “super” image, there are a lot of people in your shadows. It’s time to let everyone shine.
Super people also do not get the time to accomplish goals for themselves. That novel you always wanted to write is still just an idea and the job change you wanted to make seems like it will never come. Giving some time to yourself lets you be good to yourself. You are rejuvenated more then any vacation abroad could allow.
Super…Always
You can be a super person by asking for help, teaching others to reach their goals rather then just do it for them and of course, saying “no” to overwhelming tasks once in a while. You are also still a good person if you do a little something for yourself. Never let being a super person overlap on your dreams. You must reach the ultimate you in order to be the best person to others. Give yourself permission not only to be a super person, but a real person.
