Transitions – life is full of them. The trick is how we respond versus react to them. And like the ocean waves, they come and go. Some are bigger while some are smaller but you can count on them to show up most times when you least expect it.
Whether these waves are large or small, personal or professional or all of the above, we each have the opportunity to respond in a good way. Now, you may be thinking about some very difficult and unexpected transition that has come your way and are asking yourself “How do I respond in a “GOOD way??”
It’s pretty normal to react to any of these shifts, which can also easily trigger a knee jerk reaction. You know that innate desire to push against what’s happening and creating any level of drama around it. This only tends to exacerbate the situation and can create an even bigger energy drain on yourself and those around you too.
Tips for responding in a good way:
- Notice what’s happening
- Stay present to the situation (versus leaving the building, leaving your body or stuffing your emotions),
- Feel what there is to feel and let it move through you
(BTW, This applies both in your personal and professional life.)
I’ve also found it immensely helpful to ask myself two questions in these challenging times:
- “What’s the potential learning here for me in this situation?”
- “What’s needed now?”
These two questions help to bring me back to the present moment and get out of the story or drama around the situation, which can easily spin out of control and adding to the problem.
The next step is to then get quiet and listen to what your intuition has to tell you in response to either of these questions. You may be surprised what information and ideas arise from the depths of your being. Your higher self knows many things. We all have this wisdom that lives within us when we take a moment to stop and really listen to it.
Listening to your internal guidance system will help you work through the challenge in the moment and get through to the other side so you can keep moving forward towards your goals, objectives and dreams.
Life is full of these ups and downs and the transitions in between. I believe they’re intended to help us feel more deeply in both directions so we can more fully appreciate the beauty of this life and the amazing gifts it has to offer when we are open to receiving them.
So next time you feel like you’re on a ship bobbing helplessly on the ocean of life, take comfort in the fact that just as the wave descends into a valley, it will eventually rise back up into a crest. Atop this crest is a place from which you can see far and wide, reconnecting your heart, mind and spirit with the things that are important to you and call you forward to your dreams and success!
Question to Ponder: How might you be more gentle with yourself as you move through a challenging moment?
Make it a great week!
