Many of us are busy people AND we buy into the cult of busy-ness too. There is a cultural paradigm that pressures us to take our own personal value from what we do and what we accomplish. With this as a measuring stick of course we would continue to push ourselves into over-scheduled day-timers, back to back meetings and no time for joy or play. But we are innately worthy and it is time we choose to fill our plates with at least a piece of dessert!!
In this busy world we often speak of “clearing my plate” as in I have to get this all completed before I can relax on vacation. Sometimes we may say, “My plate is full” or ” I have too much on my plate” which means don’t even ask me to consider that as I am about to have a melt-down. We keep heaping on more and more and then we are annoyed that we are not living the life we want.
Yesterday at a team meeting my friend and wise colleague Helen said she is not only clearing her plate she is deciding what she puts on her plate in the first place. I just love this. It made me stop and consider what I feel I must do and what I actually can and want to do.
If I believe, as I do, that I create my life, then I can say no and I can say yes. I decide. I know this is all easy in theory but next time you are feeling overwhelmed, over- scheduled and over-done ask these questions:
- Is this really apart of the vision I have for my life? What do I want on my plate?
- Is it absolutely necessary that I do this? Can I ask someone to help me? Can I take something off my plate?
- Can I say no? Why do I feel that I can’t? Can I clear my plate?
You are the head chef in your life – cook up something delicious!!
Wishing you all joy, peace and prosperity!
Many blessings and namaste,
Shasta
