Interview Description: Dropping bombs that slaughtered innocent people awakened Garry Davis to the realization that he had been trained to be a killer, that the world operated from a place of “us against them,” and that nation states were war machines. Renouncing his American citizenship in 1948, Garry became a “citizen of the world.” He makes the case that, “Survival, the abiding mission that we all face, makes all the divisions that we think we are, such as nationality, colors, religious, and gender, obsolete.”
Bio: Among his many endeavors to bring about a practical way for living in oneness and eliminating war, Garry Davis formed the World Service Authority in 1954 that now issues World Citizen Passports and World Citizen Birth Certificates. Over 150 countries have accepted the world passport at one time or another. Garry’s life is the subject of a full-length documentary film in development by One Films, “Just One! The Garry Davis Story.” A five minute short about the film won “Best Global Documentary” at the New York International Film Fest and First Place at the World Peace Film Festival.
