Last week, I started this series on Powerful Living. It is based upon my observations of studying how successful people operate. Some people are more effective than others. There is a saying that, “if you want something done, ask a busy person.” So what makes them more effective than the rest of us? Let’s recap last week’s column. The first three suggestions I had were they eat smaller meals, stop eating two hours before bedtime, and avoid eating white food as much as possible. Now for this week’s suggestions.
First, they drink plenty of water. Our bodies are made up of water. To help us operate at a high level we must have water and not just when we exercise. We need water all day long. From the moment we rise in the morning to the time we put our head on the pillow at night. I would suggest that you drink a cup of water when you get up in the morning. It is at that time that the body needs water the most. It hasn’t had any water in probably around 8 hours. Also, I would suggest drinking a cup of water before each meal. It will help you to eat less and water helps to digest food.
Second, substitute fruit instead of having cookies, chocolate bars, potato chips etc. When our ancestors wanted something sweet they ate fruit. The cavemen did not have Mars bars. They ate fruit for a dessert not as something to eat before moving on to cake for dessert. I have seen numerous people drop sugary foods from their diet and their waist slims very quickly. We consume around 250 times the amount of sugar our ancestors did just two centuries ago. That is a startling statistic. Our bodies are not prepared to process the amount of sugar we put into them. This gross amount of sugar can be linked to various illnesses and diseases.
Action Exercise:
Try to limit yourself to just one sugary dessert a day. I would suggest having it at lunch. This will help you to curb your desire at dinner.

Chris..Chris…Chris. All is true…yes? Trouble is how do folks that do not have these wonderful habits form them. Genetics play such a big role as does other factors. I believe sometimes simple is best. Seems to me that an Iodine supplement may help with an immediate boost to get folks back on track or on track to healthful living or simply on track for the first time. I believe you can be successful, happy and healthy without being completely fit. Mind over matter and focus can go far as well as reading all these terrific post but adding Iodine may be what a body needs right now to form the positive habits you suggest in your post.
Absolutely agree about the water. Drink, drink, drink. Your body will thank you. Your skin will glow. Your mind will be sharper. About eating habits, it’s not always easy to avoid that chocolate bar… but whatever you eat, I would advocate ‘conscious’ eating. Eat with awareness, knowing what each mouthful will bring you, enjoying each bite. If you do that, you will naturally go towards foods that are good for you!
I definitely agree about the water. However, not all water is necessarily good water. You should be drinking good purified, ionized, alkaline water. Most municipal source waters are heavily contaminated with chlorine, fluoride and many carcinogens that can lead to all sorts of “dis-eases”. And guess what. Most bottled waters are from a municipal source. That’s right, good old tap water!
I recommend Kangen water. The ionizer that makes Kangen water has been used in hospitals in Japan for over 35 years and is the only one that is an approved medical device in Japan. http://www.secondchances4u.com
YES … WATER ..water .. water …. I have just read ‘the’ water book …. it’ wonderful ….. http://www.watercure.com … we are in a state of dehydration without realizing … S.
i agree with the water except there is such thing as too much water. plus people need to know you cant drink all the water your body needs within the first couple hours of the day, you have to drink it evenly throughout the day from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. Back to drinking too much water, water is useless if you dont have enough sodium and other electrolytes to help keep you hydrated.
i disagree with not eating sugar. anything in moderation is key! instead you mind say the link between sugar and disease mind really be caused by the underlying mindset that the people who eat way too much in general not the actual sugar. just a thought.
here’s one for your list:
learn how your body works. learn nutrition. learn how to exercise properly. learn how your own mind limits you. learn how to stop your mind.
cheers

I enjoyed reading your tips and agree with you, they are tips to follow for a healthy lifestyle. A person in good health who practices good nutrition and proper hydration does tend to be more active, energetic, and physically able then a person in poorer health. I don’t necessarily know if successful people are healthier then those who achieve less. What makes certain people more successful or effective than others?? I would think that determination and drive would propel a person towards success.
