There is that moment in life when something triggers an awakening in us that brings about a change in movement from walking blindly in darkness to venturing forth into light. This isn’t something that happens over night or finalizes a bliss that for ever after we are happy and without trials. This is only one moment of a long string of moments that are strung together like pearls on a necklace spaced with knots. It is an unrealistic goal for most of us, that from the moment awakening begins we are in one split second enlightened and continuously tapped in to a higher conscious state of being. For most of us, it is intermittent moments of awe and awareness that come after hurdles that we overcome.
Our Ego wants to get involved at the moment of awakening and point out how you should be further down the path. Or, your Ego may want you to become complacent by taking on the thought, “Well, look how enlightened we are now. No need to keep working at it”. It is almost humorous the lengths the Ego will go to distract you from the the process. Why? Because the Ego ran the show when we lived in the dark. Ego likes control. Ego likes power, distraction, and plenty of drama. Ego lives for trickery. Once we become aware that we are more than our Ego, more than the stories of our lives we a bit at a time take back the power that Ego has wielded and keep it in the hands of our higher self or soul. Ego does not like this.
Ego like a petulant child tries lots of tricks to distract you and gain the power back. Often our greatest attempts to keep our higher self in charge are thwarted by such crafty trickery. Ego has lots of friends and puts them to work when needed. Saboteur, Victim, Fear, Shadow, Insecurity, Pride are to name but a few. So, how do we stay the course when we are challenged from not only the outside worlds stresses but from an internal world of spiritual hurdles to jump?
Be aware. First and foremost, I think it is necessary for us to give ourselves permission to take a step back, breathe and develop a wider perspective of what situations are keeping us busy. What meanings are trying to make themselves known and brought into our awareness? Who are you internally interacting with at any given time? Can you see when your Victim is keeping you focused so that you can’t move on? Can you feel when fear stops you dead in your tracks so you don’t move forward? And what about Shadow? Do you avoid facing what is lurking in dark places of your soul so you remain segmented, and not whole? Bringing into awareness the Ego’s attempts to keep you entertained is necessary so that you can disengage in the power struggle.
I need to point out, that the Ego is not bad. We all need one. Ego is a part of us and an imperative part, that helps us learn through practical lessons. Most of us don’t learn by the soft nice method of someone telling us what the world is all about. How boring would that be if we were born, never experienced anything, and then passed on? Most of learn what it is to be alive and the hard way: the experiential way. Underneath all the games, Ego is our personal tutor of experience. Once we accept this we can begin to play the game of life with more love for all that comes, even the hardships. Everything becomes something we can learn from, not just suffer from.
We now know – It is a process. Ego is an experiential tutor, and every difficulty we face brings us closer to a state of enlightened being. I can hear the BUTS. That is truth and any buts are Ego’s collection of friends speaking up wanting to engage and distract from the truth. Even crisis at mass proportions are valuable experiences even when they come at such painful costs.
Ego makes it very difficult to move down the path. No one said the University called Life was going to be easy. Despite our best efforts, sometimes things don’t move as quickly as we like. Sometimes things don’t work and break down. Maybe they are supposed to break down so we can move on to something closer to what our destiny is supposed to be. Sometimes it feels overwhelming. Sometimes the answers are clouded and sometimes they are clear.
Regardless of the internal or external terrain of our lives, we need to tune in to our Higher Self for direction of whether it is time to rest or time to trod on. Connecting to your heart and your instincts is imperative. Believing in yourself is imperative. But, how do you do that if you have a life time of people telling you false truths about who or what you are? What if the faith you have in your own ability to guide, succeed, or overcome are warped by negative programing? I am a firm believer in the power of Affirmations to reprogram beliefs about ourselves. Unfortunately, they don’t always come with a set of instruction and people find themselves strengthening the negative belief as opposed to eliminating it. Why is that? Ego!
When you are doing Affirmations and you say “My family loves and honours me” for example, but you know that this is not what feels real to you then Ego engages in the conversation and responds “No they don’t”. Ego has just strengthened what you have always believed to be true. “You can’t cross a chasm in two small jumps”*. Going from one thought to the opposite requires as much patience and as much gentleness with yourself, as going from being asleep to being awakened. Baby steps are still steps forward. Learn the middle ground.
- “My family loves and honours me.” baby step becomes “I am learning that my family loves me”.
- “I am beautiful” baby step becomes “I am working on believing I am beautiful”.
- I am successful” baby step becomes “I am creating more success.”
You see the point. Ego can’t argue as much with action statements. Or maybe you can try tricking the Ego all together and go in the back door by using Subliminals or Paraliminal Meditations. There are fabulous programs out there I would highly recommend to anyone. Use any and all tools available. Books, Cd’s, Meditation classes, Yoga, Reiki etc. can help you on your journey. Spiritual tools will not only make things easier, it’ll speed up the process.
Finally, remember this isn’t a journey you need to take alone. You are always supported by the Universe and more and more people have stepped out from the dark and are walking into awakening with you. The resource of community is there. You may have to look a little harder if you are in a small town. Or maybe it is online you’ll find the community you are looking for. Reach out to people who can support you and encourage you when you hit one of those hurdles.
Not tried Subliminals or Paraliminals? I Recommend you check these out!

The ego gets such a bad rep. Yes, the ego loves control. But we have no identity on earth without the ego. It is nice to transcend, but usually afterward we return back here. I believe that means we have a job to do and the ego will help us to do it.
The Spirit is not weak. When we talk about this devil of an ego, we also are saying Spirit you’re not strong enough to contend with the ego, so you have to be careful, because the ego might trick you. How can that be when the Spirit within us is limitless and knows all?
More love.
