Infertility is on the rise and for some women they are dealing with physical causes as to why this may be occurring for example fibroids, polycystic ovaries, stress etc, but many women are being left without a cause….in-explained infertility.
Going through infertility often increases your stress level as breathing becomes more shallow and the body starts to hold all of the disappointment, hurt, fear and anger inside.
Stress gets stored in the body both physically and emotionally and makes it harder to conceive by affecting the hormones that are responsible for ovulation.
I often say that the body speaks to us and when we choose not to listen it gets louder and louder until it screams at us by somehow physically letting you know that it’s time for change…Infertility!
Yoga will help you bring balance back to your body through asana (physical practice), pranayama (breathing practice) and meditation.
Asana will allow your body to open up by increasing flexibility and strength through postures that are designed to open up the hips, heart and increase blood flow through the pelvic girdle.
Pranayama will teach you how to breathe with control and purpose.
Meditation will help you reconnect the body and the breath as you imagine creating space in your body for a baby to grow.
One posture that is great to practice is Supported Reclined Bridge Pose. This pose allows the hips to be higher than the heart making it an inversion as the blood and lymph move from the legs, pelvic girdle to the heart and lungs, allowing for fresh blood to move into these areas keeping them healthy.
To come into this pose;
Lie comfortably on your back, bend your knees and walk your feet back towards your body until you can reach the heels of your feet with you middle finger.
Ground your feet to the mat and inhale lifting the hips towards the ceiling with all of the strength coming from the feet and legs.
Then take hold of a block and release your body down to be supported by the block. This is a restorative posture that requires no stretching, no striving, no pushing, just allowing the body to be.
