As we continued on our Sacred Earth Journey in Peru, we finally arrived at Machu Picchu. Here our pilgrimage was coming to an end and we were completing our path to becoming one with the condor. To fly free as divine beings of the sun. We were encouraged to let go of anything that no longer serves us on our path so that we can be liberated to better serve.

As I have mentioned so many times before, the whole tour through Peru, to all the sacred sites, was truly life changing for me. It brought clarity and courage to my heart to continue along my path and to take on even more as I search to serve in love.

Have you asked yourself lately, how can I be of service? What cause are you passionate about? Where is your path leading you?

These are many of the soul journey questions that we all dealt with while exploring the sacred sites of Peru.

And when we took the time, in silence, to hear our soul’s answer, we either reinforced our current direction in life, or some of us took dramatic 180 degree changes.

While you watch this short video clip of the next portion of our trip to Peru, ask yourself those questions as well. And remember to hear the voice of your soul as it nudges you one way or another.

“Has life been difficult? Have you processed so much in your heart? Was your pilgrimage difficult? Were you hurt many times? This condor is telling you that was nothing. It was only preparation for the next part of your service. You can take on more. And for that, take my heart. Liberate yourself.” — Puma

As we listen to these questions, the flood of emotions of past hurts and challenges came racing to my awareness. And yes, sometimes it feels like I have taken on as much as my heart can handle over the years. So I was looking forward to hearing what I could do to change that, because there is so much more that I want to do in this world, in this lifetime.

As I walked up to the heart of the condor and gave my coca leaf offering, I felt a shift. A warm surge of energy filling my heart and my soul. Reassurance. I could do more, I just need to share the load. I don’t have to do it on my own anymore.

What a wonderful feeling!

I don’t know if it’s true that only those who are “chosen” make it to the heart of the condor. I just know that I am grateful that I am on my path that lead me there, so that I can keep giving more of my heart to the world. I am here to learn, to teach, and to be of service.

Continuing on my journey to Peru, we began our visits to the many sacred and powerful sites near Cusco, Peru. In this episode of VividLife iTV, we went to explore the Temple of the Moon and its underground caves. Puma Quispe Singona, our tour guide who is an Andean Medicine Man, consulted Mama Coca to help us understand our intricate connection with Mother Earth, Pachamama.

As we learned about the ways in which Pachamama corrects imbalance, sometimes violently so, we also were made aware that we were there for a very specific reason. To wake up the Puma within us, as we are the Puma from the North that the phophecies speak about to give birth to a new life that is in each one of us.

Entering into the womb of Pachamama proved to be a very moving and emotional experience for many in the group as they felt either an extreme reconnection to the earth or also a rebirthing process being in the sacred location. Life is all about celebration. And we carry that energy of celebration with us wherever we are and wherever we go.

How often can you say a trip brought you that gift?

Machu Picchu Peru has always been my top wish-list destination. Ever since I read Celestine Prophecy when it first came out, I knew I needed to be there. My heart and my soul called out to me to give myself that gift of a life experience.

I didn’t fully understand at the time what I was going to experience. But I knew it was a powerful place, filled with energy that could transform you if you allowed it into your space and your being.

Let me take you back to a few weeks before the trip begun. My husband, John, asked me casually one day, “If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?”. Straight away I replied, “Well, I have to get to Machu Picchu Peru. That would be the first place I would go…”

Two days later, the phone rings and it’s Shayne asking me if I wanted to go to Machu Picchu Peru to film a spiritual journey. “You have got to be joking!” I practically screamed in his ear.

So there we were, a few weeks later, on the plane to Peru. I truly didn’t know what to expect, because in the past I had never traveled with groups. I was more of an individual explorer. So having a planned agenda and everything lined up and ready for us was new. And very nice.

Right off the plane we had people waiting to pick us up and bring us to our hotel. We had wake up calls and more shuttles back to the airport the next day. Our domestic flights were pre-arranged. It was all so easy. I was already liking the new experience of group travel.

And then it just got even better. We got to meet the group. There were 10 of us plus our tour guide Puma. And after having a wonderful dinner together (also all pre-arranged and covered), I really started to understand the dynamics of traveling with a group like this on a spiritual journey. We were 10 souls coming together to have a heart opening experience together. We were on the same path at the same time in the same place. How fabulous is that?

Each of us there would experience this trip in their own unique way. But at the same time, we all were going to share so much. And also support each other in ways that I can only believe were also pre-arranged… just not by Sacred Earth Journeys (or maybe Helen really is that good!)

Over the next few issues, I will be sharing with you some of my personal life-changing breakthroughs that were my gift from Peru. What I know for sure right now is that Peru is forever in me and I have always been in Peru. “Until always”, as Puma would say so well.

It’s a noun, it’s a verb, it’s a small word with so much meaning. It conjures up images of escaping, running off, hiding away, and finding seclusion. It also evokes thoughts of turning inwards and coming back to self. Retreating not only means withdrawing, but letting go of things that do not serve you well and returning to the embrace of universal unconditional love.

For me, retreat means finding my way to bliss. When I think of somewhere I would want to retreat to, I envision a place full of sunshine and warmth, surrounded by love and friendship, with offerings of delicious and healthy food. I think of a place where I am able to sit still in quiet serenity, to relax, meditate, contemplate, and reflect. I think of journeying within and reconnecting with my self to reawaken my dreams, and re-ignite my passion and inspiration, as well as extending outwards to connect with others of like mind and spirit.

I finds retreat in the mystical lands of the Maya. Each year I look forward to returning to familiar places and seeing some familiar faces too. Venturing deep into the mysteries of the Maya, I find solace and peace and tranquillity. The warm sun, delicious traditional foods, and friendly locals always make me feel welcome; so much so, that I look forward to our Maya Sacred Path to 2012 trip each year. This year I will also be joined by her daughter on our Awaken the Maya Spirit Within journey, making this retreat extra special.

Here at Sacred Earth Journeys, we are proud to offer you many delightful ways to retreat. Whether it be stretching your body and spirit on a yoga retreat, reconnecting with your inner child while you splash and play in the water on a kayak or surf retreat, or finding time to find yourself while deepening your connection with Mother Earth, whatever choice you make, you can be certain that you will be enveloped by all the key ingredients I think are necessary for a perfect retreat: warm sun, dear friends, soulful connections, beautiful and peaceful settings, and deep nourishment for body, mind and soul. We invite you all to retreat with us and find your way to bliss…

A growing number of travelers are rejecting the old “sun, sand and suds” style of vacation in favor of more meaningful experiences. “The act of making pilgrimages to certain special or sacred places is probably the most popular of all world tourist motives,” said Lester Borley, Director of the National Trust for Scotland.

A Vancouver travel company, Sacred Earth Journeys, has been offering pilgrimage travel experiences since 2003. Its president, Helen Tomei says “people want more from a holiday than simply lying on a beach. They want to change their lives for the better.”

“The purpose of the pilgrimage is to make life more meaningful,” wrote Phil Cousineau in The Art of Pilgrimage: The Seeker’s Guide to Making Travel Sacred (Conari Press, 1998). “A journey without challenge has no meaning; one without purpose has no soul.”

Phil Cousineau will be leading a group tour of Ireland in September, 2010. Dubbed “Land of Myth and Mystery – A Pilgrimage Into the Heart of Sacred Ireland,” the 12-day tour will include a walk on Croagh Patrick, the mountain where Saint Patrick is said to have fasted and prayed for 40-days. There will also be visits to Irish pubs, concerts of traditional Celtic music, a trip to the monastery of Clomacnoise, founded in 545 by Saint Ciaran, and the most famous prehistoric site in Ireland, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Newgrange.

People with a passion for yoga can visit its birth place. Sacred Earth Journeys is offering a “Yoga & Spirituality Tour of South India” February 13 through 28, 2010. One of the tour leaders, Michele Labelle, is a Certified Hatha Yoga Teacher based in Vancouver. She will be joined by Tour Guide Aman Singh, a follower of India’s ancient spiritual practices with a deep interest in philosophy and culture. In addition to yoga and meditation sessions, the group will explore ancient Hindu temples, witness herds of wild elephants, take a boat ride in a tiger reserve, shop in a 600-year-old marketplace, attend a colorful, traditional dance show, travel by train to a fishing village and possibly meet with Mother Amma “the Hugging Saint” in her ashram.
