When Neale Donald Walsch initially released what was to be a series of books with the eye opening title Conversations with God, he had no idea the reach it would have. It was birthed in 1995, prompted by a particularly pointed ‘God wrestling’ session, during which Walsch wanted to know why certain life events were unfolding as they were and what he could do about them. Thus began a time of taking dictation which he did in handwritten form. More than a dozen books, guides and supplemental materials have followed. In addition, the film by the same name came out in 2006.
The series re-defined for this reader, what it means to commune with Spirit. Having been raised in Judaism, there was a sense of God being the proverbial old dude with a white beard, looking a bit like a member of ZZ Top sitting on a cloud, orchestrating the Universe. Walsch’s writing introduced a guiding God with a sense of humor who is a companion and not a harsh judge.
Meanwhile, musician and producer Barry Goldstein was busy honing his craft, creating musical masterpieces that have healing properties. His pieces have been used in both mainstream and complimentary medical settings. He is also an educator who enlightens professionals in the field in the various means of incorporating music into their practices. His series, called Ambiology seems to come from a celestial source. Barry has added his synchronous notes and harmonies at events of such notables as Wayne Dyer, Gregg Braden, Michael Beckwith and Marianne Williamson, as well as Neale Donald Walsch.
His music has been part of my own healing soundscape, as I listen to it in the car- the release called Shine has sing-along-able appeal. I have meditated with and drifted off to sleep to the sounds of Ambiology.
Now a confluence of creativity has taken place, as they have joined forces to birth Conversations with God: An Invitation. This spoken word and musical CD takes the listener on a beautiful journey during which they are able to have a meeting with the Divine in whatever form or essence it shows up.
A true invitation opens the door, without telling the person what awaits on the other side. Walsch is masterful at beckoning so that one is tempted to enter. Even for those whose relationship with God is tenuous or uncertain, traumatic or outright hostile, the journey may ease it. This listener has an ever-changing interaction with the ‘God of her understanding,’ and the experience was one of serenity, adventure and ultimately joy.
During the guided visualization, led by Walsch in his deep and soothing voice, combined with Goldstein’s sonic sweetness, I felt as if I was being wrapped in a cozy quilt made of stars. I noticed tickling and tingling in my left arm initially, as if someone was stroking it. The meditation was easy to drift into and difficult to leave; so completely did it draw me into its depths. The combo of Walsch’s velvet tones and Goldstein’s mellifluous notes beckoned me into the beyond. At one point, Walsch asked to allow for holding energy between both hands, playing with it as if it was substantial, like a ball. That came easily, since I am a Reiki Master and accustomed to feeling what seems invisible to have heft and structure, light and heat. I found myself laughing like the little girl I once was, who somehow knew this was a reality, even back then.
Once the listener is ‘face to face’ with God, he or she is offered the opportunity to ask a question. Mine was about sustaining a long term romantic relationship. I was widowed in 1998 and have had short term relationships since then. I asked: “What do I need to do in order to call in a Life Partner?” I then entered into a deeply meditative state as ‘word pictures’ formed and asked to be written. Once I opened my eyes, I took pen in hand and began to scribble:
“Be love. Live it fully. Trust that this person will arrive at just the right time. You’ve always known this. Surrender. Don’t fuss and fret or think that something’s amiss. Breathe, allow, be, know it. It is DONE. You can know that arrival is imminent. Love waits on welcome, not on time. Each step you take brings you closer and brings your partner closer.
Your worry holds at bay the kind of intimacy you crave. No need to fear having it, or not having it. When this person shows up, he will feel as familiar as your face in the mirror. You can trust him and he can trust you. It flows.”
None of this information was new. The difference was that it insisted on coming through, gently supported by the team of Goldstein and Walsch. It was indeed a dialog with the Divine.
I join them in offering you the invitation to take your own journey, sitting face to face with whoever or whatever you perceive All That Is.
