I, too, love your nose:) Great article and a brave topic with a very important message. Lies are damaging and hurtful, even if told to avoid hurting someone’s feelings, because the end result undermines confidence, destroys trust, breads doubt and prevents one from an opportunity to “fix” their mistakes/flows and grow. There is one type of lie that is a combination of CONTEXTUAL LIE and FABRICATION. I personally find this one the most damaging one of them all. That lie is GOSSIP. This is when someone takes the information from one party, and without giving the second party a benefit of a doubt or an opportunity to have their side of the story be heard, passes judgment on that individual and than takes it upon him/herself to disseminate this skewed “fun house mirror” view of an individual amongst others. The reason I find it is most damaging is because most of the time there is an actual intent to cause harm behind the action, and because often it has a devastating effect on the one who is on the receiving end. Gossip has been known to break-up marriages, destroy relationships, cause people to lose their jobs, have mental/emotional break downs or even commit suicide. The unfortunate thing is that we can not control other people’s actions and words. The fortunate thing is that we can control how we allow it to affect us and we can take actions to prevent this from happening again to us or to those we care about by practicing truth. If we must spread information around, than lets spread LOVE, EMPOWERMENT AND ACCEPTANCE. If we must talk about someone behind their back, than lets talk about how amazing, talented, caring and gifted they are. Lets focus on the positive and lets put good intentions out into the Universe.

As a fellow mother, I, of course completely empathize with your pain and loss — though paradoxically, I can not begin to imagine it.

It takes a profound amount of courage to find the gift that your grief gave you — and then another profound amount of insight and fortitude to mine the gift and share it with the world.

Hello Mark,

Thanks for your insights. You are truly blessed if your experience with religion has brought you Spiritual fulfillment.

However, my up close and personal experiences with organized religion is what I know from the depth of my being, severed me from Source. Yes there was community, but it was one driven by the fear of hell and the need to connect with our Divinity through a spokesperson, thereby cutting us off from our Source.

People living a Spiritual but not Religious life have not been severed from Source, they are connecting through the international community in hundreds of ways, including local groups that do not require religious dogma to hold them together.

The statement “Spiritual but not Religious” was born out of a deep need for millions of individuals like myself and I’m most grateful for communities like this one that Shayne and Rose-Anne have created for us to share connect with other Spiritual Seekers.
