READ: Sex, Love, and Spirit by Mahasatvaa Ananda Sarita

Evolution is an integral aspect of each life form. We evolve physically, mentally and spiritually, in ever ascending spirals, moving from order to chaos, and from chaos to a higher level of order, and so on ad infinitum. The chaos factor is necessary, in order for old patterns, which no longer serve us, to break down and dissolve. As we discover how to accept these life changes and learn from them, life becomes ever more rich and inspiring with each new cycle.

An area where evolution of body and psyche is very apparent is the arena of relationship. It is considered normal for two people to feel sexually attracted to each other, and jump into bed to experience sexual ecstasy together. The heat of sexual experience, if lived deeply and totally, will naturally give rise to feelings of love and a desire for emotional intimacy. The couple may then decide to live together, and explore the shift from ‘honeymoon hormones’ to ‘nesting hormones.’ This phase may include giving birth to children and raising them. However, life should not end there.

In the usual scenario, a couple will move from parenthood to grandparenthood, and from there into old age and into assisted living, waiting for inevitable death. This pattern brings with it, feelings of depression and even desperation, the reason being that life has much more to offer. And if we do not live what is offered by existence, we feel, quite rightly, like we have missed the train.

If individuals and couples learn meditation and apply this to sexuality, love and relating, as happens in Tantra, a wonderful opportunity opens up. Powerfully lived sexuality, coupled with awareness, naturally blossoms into love. And when love is deeply lived as a path of meditation, it very naturally evolves into prayer. My definition of prayer is, when each cell of the body is attuned to source, and we sense ourselves to be an open conduit for ever-flowing divine energy.

Sex, love and prayer is all the same energy, lived in different ways. It is like having a 3-story house. It is the same house, but the experience of the 3 floors will each be uniquely different. Our life experience goes on expanding to include more of our evolutionary potential. In this sense, as we get older, we do not have to degenerate, but can continue to evolve, discovering more of who we are in relation to the whole.

That is why, in our ancestral past, elders were highly respected. It was understood that they had evolved into higher wisdom, having more of an overview of the full spectrum of life.

And there is another step, which is even more profound than linear evolution. If we are able to expand our consciousness to include all three aspects at once, we become one with all that is. The merging of sexuality, love and spirituality as one organic unity, is an enlightened state of consciousness. It is a big yes to life in it’s totality.

Tantra and the Divine Feminine by Mahasatvaa Ananda Sarita

In the last 2000 years or so, women have been considered to be the weaker sex in much of the so-called civilized world. In actual fact, women have simply forgotten how to access their own power, the Divine feminine. In Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching, he says:

Tantra and the Divine Masculine by Mahasatvaa Ananda Sarita

The Divine Masculine is a timely subject for 2012, as this is the year when the old world transmutes into a new world, according to the famous Maya predictions. Bring it on! The old world has been dominated primarily by an imbalanced masculine, which shows itself in the number of wars and general raping of planetary resources. This has happened because the masculine has been divorced from the feminine for a few thousand years, and by so doing has gone into a fevered testosterone fueled orgy of competition and destruction. I am by no means saying,…

The world we live in is made of contradictory elements. Night and Day, summer and winter, male and female, earth and sky, sex and spirit, the list is endless. There is a wonderful story in the Hindu tradition, that Brahma, (The source from where everything comes and to where everything returns) was all-alone, and feeling bored in infinite space. He created a divine play of opposite polarities in order to amuse himself. The name used for this divine play, is Leela.

First, Brahma created a cow, and then turned himself into a bull and began chasing the cow. The cow, in trying to escape from the bull, transformed herself into a deer. The bull then transformed himself into a stag and chased the deer. The deer, in running away from the amorous advances of the stag, transformed herself into a snake, and so on. In this way, through the courtship play of many species, our dual world came into being. And of course, as part of this scenario, we search for our other half, endeavoring to return to the original state of oneness.

I love this story, because it expresses the playfulness inherent in all of life and yet indicates the great alchemical secret of existence. If we wish to lift the veil and discover the essence of life, we simply need to bring opposites together, and in so doing, will discover Brahma hidden behind the apparent duality.

When practicing techniques of Tantra meditation, we are offered the opportunity to know the source of life through our own direct experience, and it is surprisingly easy to do so.

Awareness acts as the catalyst for the experience of Wholeness. This is so, because the smallest particles of matter that make up our physical reality, respond dramatically to the power of intent. Science has recently discovered what mystics have been saying for millennia, that physical reality is shaped by thought. As we think, so God actualizes.

The more aware we are, the closer we come to the creator. In fact, we become co-creators. This brings with it great responsibility. It means that whatever we intend, will happen. When you apply this quality of powerful, aware presence to bringing opposite polarities together, the result will be an instantaneous merging into the Godhead, or Brahma, which is described in Tantric terminology as orgasm with the universe. When we are divided, we remain weak. When we are whole, we become extremely powerful. We discover our Godliness.

The ability to merge opposite polarities is inherent in every human being. We come from oneness, and will return to oneness. It is our source of being. In fact, the experience of oneness is no further away than our nose. Tantric meditations are designed in such a way as to support us in experiencing our original nature, easily and naturally. Spiritual attainment is demystified and made simple and accessible to all. Our own bodies and all of physical life is recognized as the microcosm of the macrocosm.

The quality of Yin is fluid, cool, yielding and expansive, like water. If you have ever seen a torrential flood, a huge waterfall, or a turbulent ocean, the power of yin can be easily understood. Yes, she can be calm and yielding, or can equally be a raging and furious Tsunami. Water is contradictory and unpredictable, and so is woman. In spite of her unpredictability and illogical way of being, she is naturally attuned to the heart and her basic default setting is love. She lives for love. If a woman forgets that her power is rooted in love, she is destined for a life of misery. Universal energy is made manifest in our physical world through the vibration of love. Woman is the custodian of this vital force. Her intuitive nature acts as a beacon, calling her continuously to come back home to the heart.

It is also very important for women to realize that she is the birth giver. Even if a woman has not physically given birth to a child, she is still a mother in every fibre of her being. Whatever is born into this world has come through the conduit of woman. If the world we live in is a mess, it simply means that women have been unconscious of their role as mother of all of life.

When a woman is in touch with her unbounded ecstasy, her infinite capacity for love and her clairvoyant potential, she will be ripe and ready to give birth to a world where life overflows with joy, dance, song, love and beauty. I see such a world on the horizon. It will happen as soon as a critical mass of women wake up to the power of the divine feminine.

Tantra honours the heart as the link between our animal and divine nature. Through the practice of Tantra meditations, either alone or with her lover, a woman will find many keys for fulfilment on all levels, sexually, in love and relating, and spiritually. The richness of a women’s potential is astonishing as it begins opening up. She finds herself to be as vast and limitless as the sky. In essence, she is the cosmic womb, the mother of the universe. This immense gift also carries with it great responsibility. As we wake up to our responsibility within this creation, we will plant flowers and trees instead of bombs.

I am by no means saying that men should be like women. Quite the contrary is the case.

Louann Brizendine, M.D. in her book, The Female Brain, says; “female is nature’s default gender setting.” At 8 weeks, the fetus either develops the testes determining factor, thus becoming a testesterone fueled male, or it remains female. In this sense, we can imagine that the female is the tree of life and the masculine is a branch of this tree, receiving it’s primary nourishment from the tree.

Testesterone, a primary male hormone, gives rise to competition, territorialness, muscle mass, strength, deep voice, hairiness and abundant libido. In this sense, it appears that the male has been created in order to offer potency, protection and a living area for the feminine, so she can go through pregnancy, birth and child rearing in peace. He also may have the strength to be a leader and inspiration for his tribe. So long as his power and strength is in service of the feminine qualities of love and compassion, he is onto a great thing. He is living his purpose for his own good and for the good of all beings. The moment he strays away from the feminine, and seeks to live his competitive nature as a solo agent, he brings disaster to this earth.

Living your true nature as a man:

1)   Accept your animal, instinctual and sexual nature and live it in it’s totality. Balance and fulfillment will come, if you are able to live these qualities as a meditation, in full witnessing consciousness.

2)   Listen to your soul calling rather than following conditioned beliefs given by others. Live your individual truth.  Allow yourself to become vast enough to contain both power and vulnerability. This will make you very wise.

3)   Allow creativity to be expressed, in service of a higher truth, the truth that resides in the creation principle itself. This means, if inventing something, let it be in tune with nature. As Victor Shauberger said, “learn from nature and copy it.”

4)   Recognize the feminine qualities of changeability, love and compassion as being essential to all of life. Above all else, become the protector of love, the advocate of compassion. The more you honor and protect the feminine, the more you will be honored by life itself. You will discover yourself as a pillar of light, a Lingam of consciousness, a blessing for this earth.

READ: Tantra ~ How to Express Emotions in a Conscious Way by Sarita

Human emotions are an inherent part of being alive. We may try to control them, repress them or manipulate them in some way. In spite of this, they are ever present in many unpredictable ways. Emotions are a tremendous blessing if we can understand and learn from them. In a sense, they are like weather, changeable and sometimes volatile, yet ultimately seeking a dynamic balance in our life and relationships.

Candice Pert, a scientist who has studied the relationship between mind body and emotions has discovered that as human beings, we are “hard wired for bliss.” Emotions are part of the bio regulatory system to support us in achieving a free-flowing state of well-being.

In Tantra, whatever state we are in can be used as a portal into conscious equilibrium. If you feel anger, it is easily possible to express and release this, in a way, which does not dump negativity on someone else, but rather frees your energetic system. As the anger is released through a method of meditation, one magically discovers spontaneity, which was hidden behind the anger.

Likewise, if we own and move consciously into our fear, it transforms into trust. If we move with awareness into the experience of sadness and grief, it is revealed as inspiration. When we dive into our stress and confusion with awareness, we discover harmony of opposites.

According to Chinese medicine, each emotion is connected on the physical level with a group of organs. Fear & trust is linked to Kidney and Bladder. Anger & spontaneity is linked to Liver and Gall Bladder. Sadness and inspiration is linked to Lung and Large intestine. Inner division / stress and harmony of opposites is linked to stomach spleen and pancreas. The emperor or empress of all of these organ groups is the heart and small intestine. This organ group is linked with love and joy, which is truly the heart of all of life. When we are able to accept our emotions and learn the lessons they bring in their wake, we become more and more sensitive to the ever-bubbling spring of love within us, calling us home.

There are many methods for accepting and expressing emotions in a conscious way. These include breath therapy, bio-energetics, primal therapy, Osho active meditations, or the techniques used by Brandon Bays in ‘The Journey.’

In the 5000 year old Vigyan Bhairav Tantra, there is a marvellous technique described in one of the 112 sutras: “Lie down as dead. Enraged in wrath, stay so. Or stare without moving an eyelash. Or suck something and become the sucking.”  This meditation indicates totality. When we go into some action with our totality, it gives rise to a transcendental state where we become inclusive of the whole of life.  By learning to embrace our emotions instead of shrinking from them, we become total and therefore whole. And when we are whole, we are in tune with life, with love, in harmony with all that is.
