Life is filled with an agenda of so many things we need to do each day and trying to find time in our daily calendars to see family and friends becomes just another item on the list. Yet it’s these very people in our lives that when we make the time to be with them we discover the experience is one that nurtures our spirit. We find ourselves asking what happened, why don’t we do this more often, I had such a nice time? How did our lives get so busy that the most important things that bring peace and simplicity to our lives seem to take a back seat over all the other responsibilities we have?

When we take time out to nurture our spirit either by paying loving attention to ourselves or being with those we love it rejuvenates us so we can go back into the world again and continue meeting the things that are demanding our attention. The majority of us do not make ourselves a priority when life is knocking at our door. When our body is asking for attention and needs nurturing we don’t respond. I know of people where it has taken an unfortunate illness and wakeup call before they realized it’s time to pay attention to my SELF. Everything else in our lives becomes a priority and yet when we consciously recognize this and switch things up to ensure we do make the time to look after ourselves, we experience a sense of peace. Why is that? Could it be because we are responding with love for our SELF?

Love is an amazing catalyst for discovering peace. It truly is the simple things in life that tend to bring us fulfilment yet we are always waiting for what’s next? The next holiday, the next job, the next relationship, the next day we can rest and relax, the next moment when we’re stress free or the next material item we can acquire. Why wait? Make a conscious decision today to realize where your life is at in this moment and what is it you are waiting for? When we ask ourselves “what is it we really want” and I do mean a deeper inquiry other than the typical things we want such as health, financial freedom, a house, a job etc. Most of us would most probably say what we really want is peace, freedom or fulfilment. We tend to believe that any of these aspects are out of our reach with all the demands occurring in our lives, yet when we consciously stop and ask this question, event for a moment, it is possible to discover that these are already aspects of who we really are and they are always present, busy or not. Check it out for yourself and see.

Listen to what your heart is wanting from you and what your body needs and make a decision to respond to the call from yourself. Our lives are made up of moments, embrace each one completely and take the time to make your SELF a priority. Stop waiting for the next experience to happen, the next material possession to come along and recognize what is HERE NOW, welcome the moment with all it has to offer, because it too will be gone in an instant. There are thousands of ways love is expressed throughout this world. There are also times when people choose to withhold love as a form of emotional control. But the truth is, love is who we are, there is no one or no thing that can get in the way of us receiving love but if you choose to keep your heart closed, you are the one who is depriving yourself of the love that is available to all, it’s everywhere.  A question you might find useful investigating is ‘can I keep my heart open and love, no matter what’?  This can be a tough question to answer, investigate if you can tell the truth to yourself about this.  Look at circumstances in your life in this present moment and become aware if you are withholding love from yourself or others.

How does love move through you ? Do you love your SELF when you are feeling vunerable,? Can you love your SELF no matter what is happening in your life? The most important relationship you will have in your life is with your SELF. Can you love your SELF without judgements and expectations; can you stand in front of the mirror and honestly say to your SELF ‘I love you’? Love is the life force that flows through everything. When we become the love that we are and express acts of love it naturally flows back in many different forms.

Love flows through humans, animals, flowers, trees, mountains, books, art, food, buildings, clothing, furniture etc. It is the discovery of ourselves in everything. If you are holding back love that is a source of suffering for yourself or others make a conscious decision today to move from a place of love no matter what and see what happens.

My beloved teacher, Gangaji once said, “The love that you search for everywhere is already present within you. It may be evoked by any number of people or events. A mountain can evoke this love. A sunset can evoke this love. But finally, you must realize you are this love. The source of all love is within you”.

What role does gratitude play in helping to keep our lives simple?  Life can be challenging at times but when we take a moment to inquire into what the challenge is really all about it provides an opportunity for us to be grateful for what is, just as it is.

I’ m not suggesting life challenges are the easiest situations to move through when we are faced with money, relationship, health issues or some form of loss, but what I do know to be true is when you make a choice to truly be open and surrender to these circumstances instead of resisting them, peace arises, and fear stops running the agenda.

As I reflect on the challenges I’ve encountered throughout my lifetime I can say without a doubt I am grateful for the experiences that have cracked this heart open.  Mind you, at the time it’s occurring, we can all say ‘this doesn’t feel that great,’  but as we allow the heart to crack open it reveals the peace that has always been there for us.

We’ve been conditioned not to let the heart break at all costs, but have you ever noticed when you’ve been through a very emotional experience in your life what tends to follow after the release of the heart cracking open is a sense of peace or stillness?  And have you ever noticed that there are times  for no reason at all when you feel an amazing sense of joy, peace or love and there is absolutely nothing to attribute it to? You didn’t win the lottery, you’re not on vacation, your challenges haven’t disappeared, yet you feel free or at ease with life.  This is what is calling for our attention, this is what is available to all of us in any given moment and, this is what helps to keep our life simple.  This is what I am so deeply grateful for.  And it’s that, which we can’t seem to name but we know it intimately without a doubt when it arises.

Next time you feel this presence in your life, do yourself a favour and really stop to acknowledge it.  I always take a moment to be still and put my hand on my heart with gratitude.   Continue to do this whenever it arises and see what you discover.  The more you acknowledge this the more you may recognize its presence . Every moment there is an opportunity for us to discover more about ourselves by accepting that the world is a reflection of who we are.

Imagine the world and its content of people, places and things have all been created as a mirror  for you to see your self.  For example, when some person or a situation triggers a reaction in you, rather than project your response on that person or situation, can you embrace the fact that this scenario is a mirror for you to go inside yourself and investigate what is really triggering the emotion you are feeling?

We can keep our life simple by utilizing the mirror approach in our life by paying attention to our own feelings and reactions.   We cannot change others, nor is it our role to do so, but we can change the way we choose to interact with any life situation that comes our way by taking responsibility for our own feelings.

When we investigate why we are sad, angry, offended , frightened or any other emotion that  may arise and then tell the truth to our self, a sense of peace arises.  Take a moment to recall a situation in your life when you were holding someone else accountable for the way you felt or for something that happened or didn’t happen in your life. What would have been different if you accepted the scenario as a mirror of who you are?  What was it asking of you?

Being aware of the mirror effect throughout life helps us to be conscious of our thoughts, feelings and actions by simply asking the question ‘what is this situation reflecting to me?’  Sometimes situations are asking us to release judgement, be compassionate, meet our fears, honor ourselves, to stop and be still or simply asking us to keep our hearts open and love ourselves and others.  The mirror effect can be a powerful tool for self inquiry.

The answers you are always seeking are not outside of who you are they are closer than you think.  Make a commitment to bring awareness into your life today and discover the answers that rest within the home of your own heart.

When you embrace a new day make a commitment  to bring at least one of the following suggestions into your  life for peace and simplicity.

BECOME THE OBSERVER OF YOUR MIND

The magical life force that moves through each of us is free and has been from the moment we took our first breath when we entered this world.   As we grew we began to identify with our mind about who we are, what we should or shouldn’t be doing, who is right, who is wrong and to believe what our mind is telling us. Until one day when we wake up and realize, the messages we have been acting on from our mind are not serving us anymore.  As a matter of fact, they are most probably causing suffering of some kind or generating fear about some thing.

If you choose to become the ‘observer’ of your mind and not act or react to everything that is running through it there is the opportunity to discover peace and freedom.  The mind is brilliant and is a great tool for helping us to do the practical things in life we need to do, such as going to work, paying the bills, operating machinery, driving cars, grocery shopping, learning etc. but all the other incessant chatter that goes on is nothing, there is no point to it. You will see this to be true when live in awareness and begin to become the observer of your thoughts.

When you go to sleep at night and wake up and realize you had a dream, who realized you had a dream, who or what was observing your dream?

Make a point of being the observer of your thoughts when you are awake, just as you are in your dream state. Become aware of what story is running through your mind throughout the day and if it has nothing to do with the practical things you need to do in life, choose to just be the observer of the thought instead of letting the thought control your very being.  It really is that simple ~ and the outcome is amazing.  It does take vigilance to be mindful of your thoughts and not to act on them.  Just let them be present, no need to do anything with the thought, no thing at all.

When we believe the thoughts running through our mind are real, they can change our mood and how we feel, if we believe the thought to be true.   For instance, if your mind is telling you a story about something you do not have, that you should have, something that you will never have it can certainly begin to deplete your spirit but when you choose not to believe the mind in that moment, it begins to realize you are not reacting to what it has to say, when awareness is present thought appears to fall away.  Next time you mind produces a thought ask your self ‘is this true, really?”

My experience has been when you become the observer of your thoughts the trivial chatter that goes on in your mind begins to stop and your mind is no longer ruling your heart. The heart can answer any question you have for it, maybe not in your time frame and maybe it does not always give you the answer your mind would like to have, but it will always be true.  When we move from our heart in life, and not from a place of fear created in our mind, life becomes simple.  Be the observer of your thoughts today, let them come and let them go, choose not to act on any story that is being told in your mind and then see what happens.

I believe each of us throughout our life time has experienced the emotion of rejection or maybe even deeper than that, abandonment. These emotions, if you let them in, can break the heart wide open for you to discover what can’t be rejected or abandoned.

Perhaps it was a job or a relationship that left you with feelings of rejection or abandonment. Whatever the story, and I respectfully do not make light of these experiences as they can be very painful, and once experienced, the feelings can continue to resurface in our lives until they are healed. Each time these feelings arise in our life, if we continue to look for another to resolve or take away the pain and suffering that can come with these types of emotions we will never be free. When we realize that who we really are is not dependent on someone else filing the gap to make us feel whole and complete then the healing begins. Perhaps it has been our very own self who has rejected or abandoned our selves by looking to others to give the love we are so desperately seeking.

There’s also a simplicity that arises when we are conscious of rejection or abandonment being present in our lives. When we remain open and allow the emotion to be present without even labeling the feeling it begins to transform. Remember next time when you feel one of these emotions, remind your SELF that who you are is already free, no other is required to discover this, as a matter of fact, you are the only one who can discover the truth that is resting in the core of this very experience.

Many of us are always trying to meet the needs of others in search of consciously or unconsciously wanting to be loved or feel needed and often don’t even realize that by doing so, we are dishonouring our self. We can honour others by being considerate, non judgemental, generous and compassionate but the question I am asking here is a much deeper question than that.

Have you ever put yourself in some situation throughout your lifetime where you dishonoured your own being? How many times have you allowed others to be disrespectful, verbally or physically abusive, controlling, or stayed in a situation to the point where your spirit’s depleted? Perhaps it’s a boss, a family member, a spouse, or a friend that we stay in these relationships with and continue to comprise our own heart, but whatever the situation, during these times many people tend to feel it deeply in their soul that something is just not right, and yet still they continue to stay in environments that ignore their own hearts calling, and usually it’s out of fear.

When we make choices to stay in these situations, we often set out on a path of self betrayal, and it’s not until we recognize that we have betrayed our own self by staying in these dysfunctional situations that we realize the importance of honouring thy self. When we truly begin to honour ones self in every aspect of our lives, goodness begins to flow from that for the self and for others.

I often hear reports from people regarding how fearful they were about removing themselves from situations in their life that were not honouring their spirit, and when they finally made the decision to do so and listened to their heart, they were truly shocked at how much easier it was to meet their fear of leaving the situation than they could have ever imagined. And, once they had done so, what do you suppose they discovered ~ the peace that is here ~ that always here.

May you discover the peace in your life by truly honouring your own SELF.

Over the past several months I have met many people who inherently know there is a path other than the one they have been walking for most of their lives which is calling for their attention.

It’s the path of peace that is calling and that which is available to all of us when we consciously make a decision to wake up and stop living our life in a story about who we think we are or what our life should or shouldn’t look like. It’s waking up to realize life is living you – you are not living life. When you come to this realization you witness that life becomes the driver of life itself ~ the mind along with its endless thoughts about who you are, what you should or should not be doing is now taking a back seat.

I feel very blessed to have come to this realization and although life challenges continue to come in this direction they just appear to move through this body in whatever way and in whatever time frame is required. Once we are caught by the flame of consciousness and honor the calling to wake up and be mindful of what is occurring in our life in any given moment and do so without resistance, we begin to witness that there is an ease to living our life when we remain open. Open to what is showing up in our life, open to the experience, open to how long it wants to remain in the body and open to the feelings and emotions that arise. All that is required is to simply say YES – yes to what is, as it is.

Make a conscious decision over the next 30 days to wake up each day and be mindful of how life is moving through yourSELF. Notice when you are not open, notice when your heart feels closed and your body tense. Notice if you can relax into the feeling without putting a label on the experience. Become the observer of life moving through you and let it move, or let it sit ~ just let it be, and then see what is true or not. Don’t forget to share your insights with us.

How do you consciously meet the reality of your life? Do you tell the truth to yourself about your reality or do you resist it? Are you willing to be open to the reality of your life 100% and notice what it triggers in your being? Each day the landscape of our life changes and we find ourselves in a new place of reality. More often than not we tend to resist the aspects of the realities of life that are unpleasant to deal with, and as a result, we find ourselves in a place of suffering.

So what is reality, really? Let’s keep it simple, if it’s raining, it’s raining, if you car has broken down, the reality is your car isn’t working. Or in this moment, your reality may be somewhat deeper than that, perhaps you have lost your job, you’re sick, you’ve lost a loved one and you’re grieving. These situations are very real, they are here NOW, in this moment in our lives – it is our reality.

So what to do? The truth is, we cannot argue with reality – it’s futile to try to do so, it is what it is. We can’t change the fact that someone we loved has died, we can’t change the fact that perhaps we are suffering with an illness of some kind but what we can do is make a choice of how we will simply be with that reality and loving ourselves in this place. When we become mindful about what is occurring in our life and accept the reality of our situation the suffering created from resisting it appears to subside. If you are not surrendering to your reality it will most probably be causing you suffering of some form. Remember, what you resist persists and what you embrace you erase.

I am not suggesting that any of us like the feeling that loss and pain can bring into our lives but acknowledging that it is present and letting it be is an option. My experience has been that when we speak the truth about our reality it begins to have less power because we have consciously acknowledged what is.

Be mindful to meet your reality as it arises, let go of time frames about when it should change or disappear. Let go of expectations, just let it be, let it have its time with you it will dissipate on its own accord anyway. Keep your life simple ~
