READ: Becoming Love by Janice Chrysler

A simple touch, a gentle kiss, a warm embrace, sitting silently while holding someone’s hand or a loving smile from across the room can all bring peace and calm to a troubled stranger or friend. Just think of when you were a child and how magical it felt to have someone kiss away your “boo-boos” after you had fallen and hurt yourself.  Anyone who has had pets can relate to their instinct in knowing when to come and curl up on your lap or lay beside your bed when you are not feeling well.  Love, whether it comes from another person or animal can bring balance and healing into our lives faster than any medicine or ritual. Oh, but let’s not forget the love sent to us through nature! Can anything be more calming than an orange and purple sunset as it casts its reflection upon a glass-topped lake? Or sitting under countless stars on a full moon lit night?

It is all too easy to by pass the simple things in our lives and brush off the necessity for the feeling of connection with one another, the universe, nature and the Divine.  Isn’t it easier just to make the excuse that you don’t have the time, energy or money to reach out and touch someone, take a walk or to pray? After all, wouldn’t it be safer not to love in order not to feel rejection or hurt feeling? But in reality, what are you really saving?  In fact, you are depriving yourself of the very thing you came to this earth to experience – the joy of life itself!

Take a moment and look around you.  Really look at the people you meet, the buildings you pass on your way to work, the colours of the leaves of the trees or hear the laughter of the children playing in the yards.  When was the last time you read the name tag the check out girl in the grocery store was wearing and then took the time to call her by name? How many times have you passed an elderly person who was sitting alone on a bench, not even taking the time to send a smile their way? Those people you pass and choose to ignore may be going through something upsetting in their lives and your kind word could make all the difference in their day or even their life.

Random acts of kindness are not things you should have to think about and plan but rather come naturally to you throughout the day.  So I challenge you during the course of the next month, make it a point to do give something to everyone you meet, give something back to the earth and make a point to put aside time for your connection with Spirit. No money needs to be spent and very little time will be taken from your day.  Passing along a smile, encouraging words, or even silently sending another love and positive energy can all be done so easily.  Thinking about the products you purchase and their effect upon our earth, going for a walk, breathing in the fresh air and feeling the warmth of the sun upon your skin are simple ways to give thanks to this planet and the universe.  Above all, allow yourself a few minutes each day for solitude and meditation because it is during these moments of silence that you find your inner peace and connection to Spirit.  Here in this time where you “just be” you will experience the oneness with everything and find yourself being rejuvenated and your love replenished a hundredfold.

What are you waiting for? Close your eyes, breath deeply, exhale slowly and allow the love of the world around you and the unconditional love sent from Spirit to completely envelope you. Now imagine sending that love to all the people you have crossed paths with today…. whether you know them or not, like them or not and regardless of what they did or did not do towards you today.  Send this same feeling of love to all of nature and the universe as it too must heal and grow through our positive thoughts and actions.  Now, wasn’t that easy?  You have just taken the first step to truly becoming love and opening yourself up to receive the many blessings you too deserve.

READ: Closing the Door on 2011 by Janice Chrysler

Once you have taken the time to “reflect” and “review” the past year it is now that wonderful moment of closure. Before you can begin to manifest what you desire in our life you will need to go back and close a few doors that are just staying open and causing a very bad draft!  Have you ever noticed if you are in a room and a door is even slightly ajar you can’t help but periodically glance over to see if anyone is going to come through?  Similar to the open door, you keep looking over your shoulder to see if you have missed something from your past and in the process, you generally miss the wonderful experiences in your present. Subconsciously you still have your mind on these past events if you haven’t placed some kind of closure on them or in other words, shut the door.

No doubt you have heard it said, “When one door closes, another one opens”.  In your meditations and dreams, doors represent opportunities that are before you.  It is always up to you to either stand outside a closed door or push it open and step on through into a new adventure.  It is always wise to let a door close behind you, realizing that you are now through with that life experience and are now prepared to move on to the next challenge.  It can be scary stepping outside of your comfort zone but it can also be exhilarating, enlightening, and empowering. You have to go through the doorway in order to experience what is on the other side.

Trying and learning new things can be overwhelming if you allow it to be.  You must remember that you didn’t always know how to walk, talk, drive, cook, read and write.  These were skills that you developed as you grew. As children you welcomed learning without over analyzing the process.  It wasn’t until you got older and realized the fear of failure that you began to hold yourself back.  Through self-awareness you will learn that you never really failed but completed a life lesson.

Think over the past year and see if you can recognize doors that you opened in order to take advantage of new opportunities.  Did you take a chance and step out of what had become your comfort zone? Do you feel you have left some doors ajar or swinging in the wind that you need to go back and close?  Look at where you are now and see that you have moved forward on your life’s journey. Are there more doors ahead of you?  Well of course there are! It is hard to tell just how many doors await you but be sure that it is all up to you what ones you open, what ones you leave closed and whether or not you step back and just wait and hope that the door will open all on its own.

Caution: when shutting doors it is extremely important that you remove anything and anyone who is stuck in the way of it’s closing.  Simply pretending things didn’t happen or you can forget about them does not release the hold they have on you. You need to face the memories and come to terms with them: give forgiveness where needed, release pain, admit to mistakes made and embrace the lessons learned.  You will gain a sense of freedom, lightness, as the chains that once bound you are broken.  Renewed inner strength will empower you, enabling you to unlock the door(s), which lie ahead of you. As you venture forward, do so with the same innocence that you processed as a young child allowing you to embrace the moments of learning and growth as though it were for the very first time.

As you close the door to your past experiences, remember to give thanks for the opportunity to have gone through that life lesson and take from it at least one positive memory. Cut any cords that may still hold you back then make your exit! Step through that doorway with eyes wide open and greet whatever awaits you with the knowing that you have become stronger, wiser and have the power within and around you to go through anything. Once closure is made you will be ready to focus on what it is you desire.

You are Sacred Purpose by Jeff Brown

You are not your shame, your fears, your addictions, your games, your guilt, the internalized remnants of negative messaging… You are not your resistance to your true path … You are not your self-doubt… You are not your self-distraction patterns. You are not your escape hatches… you are not your pessimism about a life of meaning and purpose. You are not here merely to survive and endure…

Doing Our Best by Oriah Mountain Dreamer

When I was growing up my father often said: “Everyone does the best they can with what they have to work with.” What I want you to know about this is that he did not say this lightly, did not come to this from a life of ease or privilege. He had grown up poor with an abusive alcoholic father and an exhausted, unprotective mother. As a child he and his mother were beaten almost every night by my grandfather who eventually (after my father was an adult) committed suicide- hung himself in the barn of the dirt farm where my father had …

READ: Are you Spiritually Stuck?

As you know, each one of us has psychic and healing abilities.  Like all other endeavors in our lives, if we choose not to use them we will forget how to use them.  Perhaps there has been a time in your life when you were very intuitive but it frightened you and you wanted to shut it off.  You would still receive messages, have a feeling but now instead of paying attention to it you likely brushed it aside, allowing your ego to convince you it was all your imagination.  You may have wanted to open up more but refused to follow the lead that God, your angels and guides were showing you so now you feel as though they are not doing anything around you when in fact, it is you who have tuned them out.

Remember that we are not always given things in the manner we think they should come.  You may be expecting to “see” things at will but instead you sense or just know things but ignore these messages, as it isn’t what you want.  That would be your ego getting in the way again!   A good friend of mine told me a story about her own attempt to change a guide’s message.  When asking what she should do in a particular situation she received a very clear answer at the end of her meditation.  Not really liking that answer, she decided to ignore it and meditate again the next day on the same question. That night she had a dream and the same message came through very clearly in her dream.  Upon awakening she decided that she likely just dreamt that because it had been on her mind from early that day. Twice more she meditated and twice more the same reply was given to her.  Through out the week she would receive signs that verified the message until she admitted that must be the direction she needed to take.  She laughs about it now but said had she listened to her guides the first time she would not have wasted a whole week trying to change the message and gotten on with things!  How often have you asked for help or guidance but then refused it when it came?

Another thing you may find that happens when on a spiritual journey is a feeling of being stuck.  Again, you need to ask yourself if you are truly being open or are you putting off moving ahead? If you have ever played a video game you know that when you complete one level you will just sit there until you agree to move to the next level. You don’t go back unless you want to start the game all over again. Perhaps you have been instructed that you should be a healer, teacher, take a class or share with others your story but instead you have sat down and not moved…you haven’t agreed to move to the next level.  As in other areas of your life, it is possible to decide to remain in your spiritual comfort zone.  Ask yourself if you are afraid of moving ahead for whatever reasons then face the fears and proceed.  Are you increasing your form of spiritual practice – for example do you have a meditation time each day, read articles or books on the subject? Begin increasing your mind and your spirit will follow.  You may not be as stuck as you think but actually in a position where things are going to shift.

Often this shift comes in a new form of “sensing” things.  If you were very visual, you may now sense, know, be sensitive to scents or hear things but see very little. It is just another way you are opening up.  Accept and welcome these new avenues and soon you will discover where you fit the best. When I first started doing healings, I would see colours and feel the energies around myself and the client via temperature changes and a sense of heaviness or lightness.  The more familiar I became with this, then visual began and I soon realized that I was receiving messages for my client and that it didn’t happen for every client either.  The more I accepted what I saw as coming from Spirit and not my ego, I would receive a knowing along with a visual or sometimes on its own.  I then began to ask questions on what I was sensing before relaying these messages to my clients and found I would receive even more information.  I understand now that I needed to take baby steps and I was given things at the right time and when I was most willing to accept them.  I also believe as I continue to open up more completely I will increase my awareness even more. Also, I have come to understand that in order to move ahead I have needed to let go of some things that seemed so important to me….and they were, at that particular moment in time.  Putting the ego aside is the biggest challenge.  You are the one who put the limits around yourself so you have to put them to one side and allow your Higher Self to come through.

No matter where you are in your journey, there will be times of “dark side of the soul”.  This will sometimes sweep over you and resemble a form of depression.  Remember, this is the time you need to meditate more fervently, listen more intently and give thanks from the heart and soul.  You are not forgotten, cut off or unloved.  We are all children of God and like children, often require our alone time. Even though we may feel alone, the Divine and all the angels are silently looking on, ready to help us when we ask.  We wouldn’t have learned to walk, talk or do things on our own if our parents had not let go of our hands, trusted us as some point to make our own decisions and let us leave the nest.  So it is with the spiritual family.  We are here at this boarding school to learn lessons but our real family is never far away.  Perhaps the dark side of the soul is more of a feeling of homesickness than anything else. Maybe its time you wrote a letter home??

This week’s assignment:

Take time to meditate, journal AND write a letter to God, your angels and guides. If your life here is a trip away from home, what do you write about? What would you ask? Are there feelings you would like to express? Questions, acknowledgments, gratitude, forgiveness that need to be included?

When you are done with your letter you may wish to keep it so you can add to it any message, future questions and answers. You can perform your own ritual of burning the paper as a sign you are sending the letter to the heavens via the smoke.

Most importantly, remember to include a forwarding address! Set up a time to meet (next time you will be meditating) and keep the date.  No one likes to be stood up.  Often by writing out how we feel, our frustrations and desires, will act as a form of cleansing.

READ: Spiritual Growth…The Journey Begins

November 14, 2011 by

There is so much more to raising our awareness than just being able to use a pendulum or read a tarot deck of cards.  Each time we manage to raise our vibration we become more in tune with the world around us and the spiritual realm as well.  Our life here on earth is a journey of discovery in all areas of life.  Every challenge has a meaning perhaps a pattern that needs to be examined in order to stop it from repeating, every triumph a stepping-stone for a new adventure.  From the time we are born until we leave this earthly plane we are to explore, experiment, and experience life. Most importantly, this includes discovering our Higher Self.

Spiritual Growth could be defined as connection with our Higher Self and to a Higher Power within and without.  Meditation is the way to bridge this seemly great divide.  Guided meditation performed in a group setting (like the Healing Circle held at my home) is wonderful as we can use each other’s energy, share our experiences and discuss matters of the heart in a non-judgmental environment.  Using a chant or mantra is a more personal method, as we tend to go even deeper inside when we do this. Of course, chanting in a group produces an amazing physical vibration, which in itself can assist us in raising our own spiritual vibration.

We need to remember that everyday holds something to be grateful for, something to be learned and shared with others, and an opportunity to be kind to someone, including ourselves.  By connecting with the Divine through love, compassion and understanding, we will be able to love and nurture ourselves more and then be able to connect in a more meaningful way to those around us. The wonderful thing about Spiritual growth is we can never get enough as it is always expanding.  The more positive we are and in control of our thoughts, the more positive energy will be attracted to us.  If things do not seem to be going so well, we need to stop and reflect on just how our thought process is working at this time. Perhaps we have not taken time to be one with OM and in the process the connection has been dropped and we no longer are able to hear messages or guidance. This of course, can quickly be changed.  By allowing positive energy to flow freely through us we will notice it coming back to us.

As we continue on our path, we may need to remind ourselves that not everyone is at the same point in his or her personal awareness.  When it comes down to it, life is a road we travel alone – each of us experiences life in our own way, time and level of awareness.  Since messages come to us through our intuition and feelings, it is important to strengthen this connection.  We will then experience increasing insights, revelations and expanded awareness.

In order to “know ourselves” we need to be aware of our own energy and that of the energy around us. Much like we do physical exercises to strengthen our bodies, so too will psychic exercises strengthen our awareness.  Watch for the second part of this article to learn some simple, yet effective psychic exercises you can learn to improve you own intuition.

READ: Harvesting Our Life Garden

October 7, 2011 by

Here we are just beginning the month of October and already the stores are displaying and advertising Christmas gifts and decorations. Our minds automatically start to race ahead to what to buy Uncle Joe, what and who will we have for dinner and where is the money going to come from to buy all the things advertisements tell us we just “have” in order to be happy this holiday season? Meanwhile, we skip past one of the most beautiful seasons in Canada – autumn. I am constantly amazed at how many people do not appreciate this time of year. How can anyone not notice what a glorious day it is with the crisp morning air, warm sunshine and the changing colours of the leaves. Instead they choose to jump ahead and think only of the upcoming snow, cold and long winter nights (which by the way can be quite beautiful as well).

By planning ahead we seem to have forgotten to live in the moment and fill our thoughts with worry about the future. It is as though the senses are shut down and all focus is on a time to come. October is special as it hosts Thanksgiving here in Canada. The small local farmers markets will be setting up their wares for the last time, gardens are all harvested and canning is at its peak. The landscape becomes Spirit’s canvas where the creator’s brush has gone wild with colour and all of nature’s sounds and smells of summer quickly merges into fall. Leaves are changing into their radiant garments of blazing orange, sunburst yellow and sensuous red. Even the air is different as early mornings and evenings brings with it a wisp of frost that invigorates the body, yet the sun is still warm on the skin. What is there not to love? Sure there are the rainy ,dark and windy days but doesn’t that simply finish cleaning up and clearing the earth? We can use this time to be inside, not only physically but mentally as well. A time of reflection on what it is we have harvested from the seeds we planted earlier in the year.

When we began this year’s journey we thought about what we wanted to manifest for 2011. Then in the spring, like our earthly gardens, we planted the seeds for manifestation. Through out the summer we watched what seeds took root and began to grow. There were no doubt many surprises as unexpected opportunities, situations and elements demanding our attention arose in our garden of life. If we were wise and listened to our own intuition we would have followed our higher self and cleared out any weeds that were blocking our growth and then nurtured the possibilities as they continued to grow. We are now in the season of harvest or a time to reap what we sowed. Before we rush off to buy wrapping paper, wreaths and Christmas trees let us take time to see and appreciate what we have brought into our life this year. Did our life garden produce what we thought we had planted? Are there things we would do differently next planting season? We need to examine where we are now in our life in order to know where we are going and to do so constructively we need to see where we started from to know how we got here. If we started out with a well planned garden then ignored it, allowing weeds to block our path then forgot to tend it and harvest it, we will feel as though our life has no direction, is unfurling and too rushed; we are then a garden gone wild.

It is not too late to get things in order. All it take is our willingness to live in the moment and it can be as simple as the following:

  • every morning, and I mean every morning, begin your day with gratitude. The fact that you are awake and able to draw a breath is something to be thankful for.
  • If you have never said grace before eating – start, if you use to but have been too rushed -start. It doesn’t have to be a long out memorized verse, but rather something as simple as silently giving thanks that you have food to eat and may it be used to nurture your body, mind and spirit. This helps to put you in the moment of eating, mindful of what and how much you eat
  • Tell the people in your life that you love them, are happy to be with them, pass along a compliment to someone. Spreading love is a sure way of having it brought back into your life.
  •  Regardless of the weather, step outside or throw open a window, breathe deeply and really feel the air as it fills your lungs. Notice what it smells like, feels like and be grateful that you are able to do so
  • Close your eyes and listen. Do you hear the birds? The wind rustling the leaves
  • Open your eyes and really, really look around. What colours do you see? What are the birds, animals doing? If you can walk near water, how has it changed since a month ago?
  •  If you drive to work, try and take a different route to work or home and look around
  •  Learn something new everyday – no matter how big or small
  • Make a point of smiling more, showing random acts of
  • At the end of your day, mentally or better yet in a journal, write down at least five things that were a blessing that day, write down at least one thing you learned or did
  • Take time to meditate if only for ten or fifteen minutes
  • Teach and encourage your children to do so as well. Remember, they need to learn to take time for themselves so they can be focused and calm as well.

Although planning ahead is what we need to do in order to manifest in our lives we also need to remember to live in “this moment or it will slip by and in doing so take with it any joy that was meant for us today. When we take pleasure in the little things soon all of life will unfold before us providing us with the contentment and happiness that we have been putting out to the future

So put that Christmas list away, at least for today, and enjoy the autumn! It is not too late to go out and harvest from your summer garden of life. You may be pleasantly surprised what is still left to be picked.
