Lucia René has been a professional actress, a computer science consultant, a teacher of self-discovery, and more recently, a writer. Her new book, Unplugging the Patriarchy, was released on the winter solstice (December 21) 2009 and will be launched on the spring equinox (March 20) 2010.
Her exploration of consciousness has spanned nearly forty years, and has drawn her to the practices of Hinduism, Zen, Advaita and Vadriyana Buddhism, and culminated in a seventeen year apprenticeship to an enlightened master who taught American Buddhism, psychic development, and tantric mysticism. She is an ordained Buddhist monk and has lectured on meditation and mysticism at universities throughout the United States.
Between 2002 and 2007, using her mystical training, Lucia collaborated with other female mystics to identify the hidden energy structures underlying our economic-social-political systems, deconstructed her personal buy-ins to those structures, and offered herself in service to facilitate the dismantling of the structures themselves and their vice-grip on the global collective consciousness.
Lucia’s current work involves monitoring the evolution of Mother Earth and collaborating with groups of women to facilitate the One Heart/One Mind—a delicate network of rarefied energies that connects, synchronizes, and uplifts world consciousness and is becoming increasingly activated as we transition into the post-2012 Aquarian Age.
Rediscovering Spirituality in Religion

“I’m spiritual, not religious.” If I had a dollar for every time I heard this, I could personally pay off the Canadian and American national debts and have enough left over for a lifetime supply of Chai Tea Lattes (my insanely expensive Starbucks addiction). Hyperbole aside, the revival of interest in “spirituality” in recent years has been accompanied by distrust for and disinterest in “organized religion,” especially among disenchanted Christians. People have discovered the transformative power of spirituality: the power to realize their highest goals and ideals, the power to overcome negativity, and the power to forgive. But what does it mean to be “spiritual, not religious”?
On the one hand, it reflects indifference and discontent with organized religion. People doubt religion’s ability to provide answers to our questions in today’s world. Also, they see how organized religion has contributed to global conflict and local abuses. On the other hand, it reflects a renewed interest in the ancient wisdom of sages from various religious traditions, re-tooled to suit modern sensibilities. But what would it mean to be “spiritual” without being “religious”? Let’s explore some problems and prospects.
Promisingly, interest in spirituality cultivates inner growth and self-realization, often leading to social and personal betterment. It helps us find “true north” on our ethical compass when we’ve lost our moral bearings. Moreover, it recommends openness to many different religious traditions and promotes tolerance. Problematically, however, it disconnects spirituality from its source, resulting in an arbitrary process of combining aspects of spirituality from different religions (or no religion). When we remove spirituality from its religious context, we lose its source of power. Individualistic spirituality, devoid of community, responsibility, and accountability, comes up empty.
We should embrace spirituality and tap into the renewed interest in spiritual awakening. It will enrich our lives and rejuvenate a world longing for deeper meaning. We should realize, however, that spirituality apart from religion will not yield lasting fruit. Once severed from its fountain source, the wells of wisdom will eventually run dry. Vibrant, lasting, and sustainable spirituality is grounded in a particular religious tradition and community. We rediscover spirituality not by turning away from religion, but turning toward it, probing more deeply for fresh theological resources. Christianity, for instance, has a rich and deep reservoir of approaches to spirituality that remain largely unknown and untapped by the modern skeptic and searcher. We would do well to rediscover these, since spirituality devoid of religion makes for shallow ground to cultivate our souls.

There is a karmic relationship between you and Stan that is now being resolved. We suggest marital counseling in strong fashion. You are at a crossroads of many insights but have difficulty in using your insights to change patterns of behavior into resolving. A therapeutic relationship between a therapist, Stan and yourself would help you travel into past relationships (of abuse) and help you understand that you cannot change Stan but change your responses towards Stan’s demands that appear challenging. What is occurring is that his demands appear unreasonable and your response is to close off what he wants (his type of communication is difficult) so that you become angry. These situations need clarification with therapeutic help. You cannot heal this by yourself. That is the correct way.

My question concerns the value of staying a shorter or longer time overseas. I already have enough money to survive at least 2 yeas.
I’m not concerned about the risk of running out of money. My big concern is that I’ll spend more time here than is necessary and delay doing what I feel I was born to do for the planet which is to write. I know that having much more money in the bank can be useful in helping me on my career path. So the opposite concern is that I will return too soon before the cupboard is as full as I’ll need. If I come home too soon with too few resources, will that serve as a stumbling block to my writing
