Acids are mostly used for home cleaning and certainly your stomach is not your kitchen sink. The modern diet, which is greatly influenced by today’s hyped up media and enslaving consumerism, is very acidic. Has there been any ad on TV, in magazines or on the internet that encourages buying vegetables and fruits? No, because they all push-sell packed or bottled products that do not match the natural processes in our body. Enterprising and consumerism has gone overboard in destroying our health.
Everything, living or non-living, is either acidic or alkaline. However, humans are creatures made to consume alkaline foods and stand as an alkaline organism in the food chain. Our blood’s pH level is pretty much determined by the food we eat. And with our blood being non-alkaline, or simply, acidic, our body will poorly perform and will have difficulty in resisting the harsh effects of oxidation and disease-inflicting viruses.
Here are the Top 10 Alkaline Foods that will give your mind and body more health and energy:
Top 10: Avocados, Bananas (ripe), Berries, Carrots, Celery, Currants, Dates, Garlic.
These foods are very high in antioxidants. They have a pH value of 8.0. They chemically react to acidic foods of pH 5.0 and elevate them near the alkaline levels. Berries, dates and especially garlic have special properties that regulate blood pressure as well.
Top 9: Apples (sweet), Apricots, Alfalfa sprouts.
These ones are super digestible foods, which are high in fiber and have a pH value of 8.0. They are also rich in enzymes that are helpful in maintaining the body’s hormonal balance. Surely, an apple a day keeps the doctor away! Don’t forget to include apricots though. For those who do not know, Alfalfa sprouts are those sprouting seeds of beans that are commonly mixed in salads and sandwiches.
Top 8: Grapes (sweet), Passion fruit, Pears (sweet), Pineapple, Raisins, Umeboshi plum, Vegetable juices.
At a pH of 8.5, this group is also high in antioxidant and vitamins A, B and C. Grapes, raisins and plums are blood-regulating, which lowers blood pressure and risks of getting heart disease. Pineapple, on one hand, is rich in L-Carnitine, which uses body fat as an energy source and is good for trimming that growing waistline. Vegetable juices, on the other hand, are high in iron and good for cellular detoxification.
Top 7: Chicory, Kiwifruit, Fruit juices.
They have natural sugar that doesn’t form acidic compounds during digestion. Rather, these foods have alkaline-forming properties that give more energy to the body. Still at a pH level of 8.5, this group is rich in flavonoids, a chemical compound in natural foods that have antioxidant properties. Kiwi fruit even has higher Vitamin C content than oranges. Chicory, a bitter-tasting close relative of the lettuce, also has insulin that supports the pancreas and aids the body in preventing diabetes.
Top 6: Watercress, Seaweeds, Asparagus.
With a pH level of 8.5, this group is unique as a powerful acid reducer. Watercress, for example, is called the natural super food. It is the first leaf vegetable consumed by human beings and is commonly prepared as part of a healthy salad. It is best eaten raw and it contains lots of iron and calcium like seaweeds. Asparagus is even more special for its highest content of asparagines, an amino acid important to the nervous system.
Top 5: Limes, Mango, Melons, Papaya, Parsley.
This food group has a pH of 8.5 and is best at cleansing the kidneys. Papaya is even the healthiest laxative that promotes defecation and colon cleansing. Parsley, the most popular herb, is the best dirt sweeper of the intestines when taken raw. It is also a diuretic, which is necessary in cleaning the kidneys. Limes, mangoes and melons are vitamin-rich fruits that are alkaline-forming during digestion.
Top 4: Cantaloupe, Cayenne (Capsicum).
The group with the most alkaline reactive properties among the foods with the pH of 8.5, they are high in enzymes needed by the endocrine system. Cayenne has antibacterial properties and is also high in Vitamin A, which is essential in fighting free radicals that causes stress and illnesses. Cantaloupes, a relative of melons, is very low in sugar but high in fiber.
Top 3: Agar Agar (Organic Gelatin)
Still with a pH of 8.5, Agar Agar is a gelatin substitute made from seaweeds that is high in iron and calcium as well. It is very digestible and has the highest fiber content among all foods.
Top 2: Watermelon.
At a pH level of 9.0, Watermelon are very alkaline. Because of its high fiber and water content at 92% of its entire weight, watermelon is a mild diuretic and a great source of beta-carotene, lycopene and vitamin C. This thirst-quenching fruit is the most life and energy supporting food when used in a week-long fasting and colon cleansing.
Top 1: Lemons.
At the top of the list is the Amazing Lemon. With its electrolytic properties and a pH level of 9.0, lemons are considered the most alkalizing food. It is the most potent and most immediate relief for colds, cough, flu, heartburns, hyperacidity and other virus-related ailments. Lemons are natural antiseptic that disinfects and heals wounds. It is also the best liver tonic that detoxifies and energizes the liver.

Lemons are acidic in nature. However when eaten they convert to alkali and therefore are a good cure for acidity.

dear sir
many scientific sites refer to lemon as a very acidic and ph 2.5 not 9
are you right or are they right
thank you
For lemons to produce an alkalizing effect, you have to mix it with water. If drinking lemon water on a regular basis, you may also want to invest getting a set of glass or stainless steel straws as the acidity of the lemons could impact your teeth enamel over time. Same goes for apple cider vinegar and mixing it water.
Pls tell me separately diet chart for breakfast, lunch & Dinner.
Thank you Craig, what a great article…. I copied all and rushed to the supermarket. I am going to start eating only vegetables and grain and fruit for now on. I usually make a huge fruit salad every week, and in there put all kinds of fruits, and I add apple juice, lime juice and passion fruit juice to it, plus brown sugar or honey. It lasts for the entire week. And I have a huge desert cup of it at least 5 times a day. By adding brown sugar, am I killing it? Thank you for your input.

Be careful of “Fruit & Honey & Brown sugar. Although the list shows high Ph vales, remember, being over-weight is the worst health hazard there is. Suggest all educate themselves on the “DEADLY” dangers of the worst kind of “SUGAR”–FRUCTOSE!!! The root cause of the 4 biggest diseases in the U.S. are Inflamation. Sucrose, glucose, fructose, honey, are all “SUGAR”—Watch portions, eat low glycerin only. Eat at most, 1 apple per day & the rest veggies, or 1/2 cup of berries at the max, the rest veggies & protein, white meats, & wonderful Quinoa–a seed–protein. Stop eating rice, any kind, it’s all full of deadly arsenic, verifies by Consumer Reports large study on all kinds of rice from all over the world. Substitute Quinoa, where ever you would use rice, gluten free,no sugar/carbs, organic, protein–extremely versatile. The guy who said he makes a big bowl of fruit and adds honey & brown sugar & eats 5 servings per day (did not mention size of what he calls a serving–should only be 1 serving–max 1/2 cup PER DAY) is killing himself. Getting bad advice, incorrectly (like most who are ignorant about the portions of “daily fruit & vegetables. It should be made clear by conventional Doctors & people like Michelle Obama, that the ratio of vegetables to fruit per day–for health & alcalinity should be 10 to 1 !!!
A serving is 1/2 cup. So the healthy correct statement should STRESS Vegatables 10 servings and FRUIT– 1 serving!! Low glycerin fruit. Remember you can get fat on many vegetable, carrots, yams, etc. so it is critical to limit maximum portions & caloric intake. The guy eating 5 servings of high glycerin fruits, which we must assume is way, way more than 1/2 cup per serving–is setting himself up for a multitude of deadly health problems.
Good blog, good info.; but need to inform about dangers of “overeating” kinds & portions of Fruit.
May want to visit Dr.Mercola D.O. and read his comment’s on Fructose.
Thanks for this useful information
wrong information.
i checked the PH of lemon . it is acidic. watermelon is about 6.5.
what way it is alkaline . let me know how it is alkaline.
Does alkaline-rich foods prevents forming of uric acid that causes arthritis?
I have many health problems (including osteoarthritis) and am trying to use my diet to improve my situation as much as possible. I’m hoping that switching to a high-alkaline diet will cut my inflammation problems and perhaps some other problems as well. I’m not a vegetarian, but I’m close (I eat meat–chicken, tuna–about 3x/wk, maybe). Love pulses and quinoa. If this works, I can cut a lot of medication, get rid of a lot of pain. One hopes.
thanks so much for the info..ur writting like a honest writer..im very happy to read it.. thanks again coz ur infornation may improving our life health..keep it up man.
You lost me when you asserted that berries and in particular lemons are alkaline! Lemons have very low pH, are very acidic…most berries and even apples which you assert are alkaline have pH levels well below 6, the median number on the pH chart.
I disagree with many of these suggestions. In the past I had a VERY hard time believing that lemons were considered alkaline instead of acid as was told to me by my sister and cousin. How can something so sour not be considered acidic? It’s because of how the lemons act once in your body. For whatever reason, lemons become alkaline in your body. So it boils down to how your body treats a food .
The reason I disagree with a lot of this article is because of the sugar content of many of these recommendations. Sugar is very acidic in your body . This is just what I have been taught and is what I believe.
Wonderful collection. I thank you for making this list. Most of these foods I really enjoy and it’s a blessing to see that I can still enjoy them.
Several other sites including a chart from a Wisconsin edu have watermelon PH at 5.18 ro 5.60, but your site say’s watermelon is 8.0. The other sites and chart have cantaloupe at 6.13 to 6.58 – your site has it at 8.5. Why are your PH values so much higher?
Very informative article, thank you for sharing.
To everyone saying that Lemons are acidic…. yes, they have a low PH which makes them acidic when they are whole…BUT, when your body metabolized them they are alkaline forming. It’s all about the residue that is distributed throughout your body after your body breaks the food down
CHICORY has INULIN, not Insulin: the difference between inulin and insulin is that inulin is (carbohydrate) a polysaccharide found in the roots and tubers of certain plants, especially the compositae; it is mostly a polymer of fructose while insulin is a polypeptide hormone that regulates carbohydrate metabolism.
Please correct. I’ll be watching.
