The Circle of Life Reminds Us to Count Our Blessings
I have never been a fan of hospitals. As a child I remember cringing at the thought of being dragged to visit sick loved ones. Just a short time ago, however, I found myself excited to voluntarily be in a hospital and for an entirely different reason.
On Sept 23, 2012, at 1 pm, my wife, Jan and I welcomed twin baby girls, Olivia Shanti and Sophia Grace, as they burst onto the stage of life. Both healthy and beautiful, Jan and I were overwhelmed by the blessings of the universe and humbled with gratitude.
Birth of the Miraculous
Witnessing the girl’s transition out of the safe comfort of the womb into the vast unknown of the greater world was nothing short of miraculous. Olivia, our first bold adventurer, decided to quickly clear the path for her slightly younger sister, Sophia. At the moment of their arrival, I immediately felt something profoundly shift within me. I still cannot fully articulate it. A deeper knowing began to arise. Perhaps it is the feeling that every man has as be becomes a father, but from my perspective I knew that everything that I had been doing up until that moment was in preparation for their arrival. I found myself making an internal commitment to both of them that by their 21st birthday I would expand and accelerate my work so that they could experience a planet filled with people who consciously recognize the love that already lives within them.
Life Comes Full Circle
As if the birth of these beings wasn’t enough of an emotional experience, 72 hours later, on September 26, at 10 pm, Jan’s mother Rita made her transition. The sweet blessing of new life and the grief of loss had touched our hearts within the space of just a few days. We found it more than a coincidence that our daughters were born more than a week before their due date and Rita’s passing came just a week shy of her 91st birthday. It was as if a greater aligning was taking place so that we could be fully present for each momentous occasion. We were gently coaxed to recognize how precious life is – and how important it is to slow down and with profound gratitude savor what is unfolding in each of our relationships right now! What greater invitation could there be than to consciously be in the present moment.
For our family, the beginning of a new chapter and the completion of another marks the changing of seasons and an important reminder that nothing is permanent. Rita’s spirit surrounds us and Jan finds great comfort in holding our daughters and remembering her mother.
No one knows how long they or anyone they love will be here on Earth. With the approaching holidays, I hope you will consider making this year the one where you really slow down and take time to cherish all those special people who your soul has invited to be part of your life’s circle.

More INspiration from Panache Desai:
I received a thought-provoking email that I would like to share with you… someone wrote and asked: If I could ask God three questions… what would they be?
My mind immediately jumped to questions like: Who killed John F. Kennedy? Did you really make Mickey Rourke in your own image? And do you think Morgan Freeman does a good job of playing you in movies?
How good does that statement feel? YES – YOU WERE BORN FOR GREATNESS!
You are not your stories, your limitations or your past shortcomings or failures. You are so much more than you realize. What shines forth when I see you is your limitless potential. I see a malleable container or conduit capable of stretching to access greatness of the magnitude of those who influenced the history and potential of mankind. Albert Einstein. Leonardo da Vinci. Nikola Tesla. Sir Isaac Newton. Marie Curie. Stephen Hawking. Michelangelo. Warren Buffet. Mother Theresa. Winston Churchill. Thomas Edison. Oprah Winfrey. This is your potential. Indeed, it is your birthright.
