Have you ever been looking at something one way only to realize a different point of view is what you needed. Sometimes changing our perspective to the place of possibility is all we need…Take the story of Play-Doh as your inspiration.
In the 1930s what we know as Play-Doh today was actually a compound used to clean wallpaper. Sales had begun to slide and the company was almost out of business. Sales had begun to dangerously slide downward when Joseph McVicker noticed his nieces and nephews like to use the substance to play with instead of modeling clay, which was very hard and challenging to mold.
In 1956 this new type of “modeling clay” for children was invented and began popping up in schools and stores everywhere. In 1965, U.S. Patent No. 3,167,440 was granted to Noah McVicker and Joseph McVicker for a “plastic modeling composition” now called Play-Doh. Joe McVicker became a millionaire before his 27th birthday after re-releasing the product as a toy. Believe it or not, National Play-Doh Day is on September 18th each year. To date, over seven hundred million pounds of Play-Doh have been sold.
Is there something you have been looking at as a failure in your life which may in fact be the doorway to something wonderful?
Ask yourself these questions:
- How can you see this situation or “failure” with new eyes or the eyes of a child?
- What creative force wants to come through you or can be born from this incident?
- Can you play with this “failure”? What would it take to feel the joy of playing with Play-Doh in your life right now?
Wishing you all joy, peace and prosperity! And I do love the smell of Play-Doh in the morning!
