So many people ask what should I be doing with my life? How can I find deeper purpose and meaning? What am I here to do?
In Yoga philosophy and practice we encourage people to turn inward to the Source or Self within to find these answers. The inner Self is the place of true love, knowing and wisdom. But just how do we do connect inward to our heart’s desire and our soul’s longing? Below is a step by step guide to finding out what YOU or your inner voice is seeking most right now.
1. Heart’s Desire
Create a quiet space where you can lay down and focus inward. Begin to allow the mind to relax and ask your heart centre, the space that houses your Soul or Self to speak. Ask simply, “What is my soul’s greatest longing?” “What is my heart’s deepest desire?”
Keep asking again and again. Your mind may try to answer but invite it to soften and relax and invite your inner knowing to respond. This may take several minutes and it may even come in the form of a word, image or symbol. Just receive and pay attention.
2. Intention Statement
Once you feel you have received your heart’s greatest desire right now then ask, “What is my intention?”.
Your intention will come from your desire. For example when I practiced this recently my soul’s deepest desire was love. So for me it made sense that my intention was to become a vessel to both receive and give love. Simple but powerful. Your intention is a way of reminding you of what you really want in your life. So when recently a friend and I started arguing about something then I remembered my intention and suggested we talk about this when we both felt calmer and more in the place of love for each other. This meant I stay in the place of my intention and my actions were more aligned here as well.
3. Action Plan
All action comes from within – from the mind usually – we want it to come from the heart. Doing this practice helps ensure your actions are aligned to your deepest desire of your heart and soul. Once you have your heart’s desire and your intention statement then reflect what actions you need to take to fulfill them or what actions need to shift.
From my own example with my intention was to be a vessel to give and receive love. After reflections I realized that I needed to create more time for self-care to really ensure I was loving myself and taking care of myself. This also means I am more rested and more present to people and better able to love them fully.
We can all choose to create the life of our dreams – it can take just 10 minutes a day. I invite you to try and see the possibility of giving your heart a voice.
