Chakra is the Sanskrit word for “wheel”. We have seven major chakra’s which are energy vortexes. Through this system we absorb energy from our surroundings. The chakra’s spin like oscillating fan blades and each one spins at a different velocity. Here is some information on this system to help you recognize where you may need some work.
The first chakra is located at the base of the spine and is known as the “root” chakra. It spins at the lightwave frequency of the color red. It’s element is earth, ruling planet is Mercury and it’s corresponding instrument is the drum. The sense associated with this chakra is smell. It’s purpose is the “grounding centre”. When it is balanced we feel calm, stable and secure. We also have a strong connection to nature. When it is imbalanced we tend to focus on material things. We satisfy our own desires regardless of the impact it may have on others. Physical symptoms may include digestive problems, lower back pain and osteoporosis. To help re-balance this chakra avoid obsessing over finances, career and physical security. Add more ginger and lime blossom into your diet. Incorporate essential oils such as myrrh, patchouli and rosewood. Lay crystals such as tiger’s eye, smoky quartz and hematite over this chakra center for re-alignment of the energy. The musical note C resonates at the same vibrational frequency as the root chakra.
The second chakra is located below the navel and is known as the “sacral” chakra. It spins at the lightwave frequency of the color orange. It’s element is water, ruling planet is Venus and it’s corresponding instruments are percussion. The sense associated with this chakra is taste. It’s purpose is the representation of “emotional & sexual” interactions. When balanced we feel open-minded, kind and considerate. When imbalanced we feel emotionally and sexually unstable. We are unable to express our feelings and we suppress our natural needs. Physical symptoms may include stiff back, kidney weakness, constipation and bladder problems. To aid in balancing this chakra avoid giving into addictive cravings of the body. Add vanilla, pepper and parsley into your diet. Essential oils such as jasmine, rose and sandalwood are helpful. Lay crystals of carnelian, red jasper and ruby over this chakra centre. The musical note D resonates at the same vibrational frequency as the sacral chakra.
The third chakra is located above the navel and is known as the “solar plexus” chakra. It spins at the lightwave frequency of the color yellow. It’s element is fire, ruling planet is Mars and it’s corresponding instruments are the strings. The sense associated with this chakra is sight. It’s purpose is the “power centre” of both the ego and the intellect. When balanced we experience a feeling of inner peace. We have an acceptance and tolerance of others and we understand the harmonious balance between the spiritual and material world. When imbalanced there’s a need to dominate due to a lack of trust in the natural flow of things. Emphasis is on the need for material security, power and control. Physical symptoms may include ulcers, liver problems as well as diabetes and nervous exhaustion. For re-balancing add more cardamom and chamomile into your diet. Take advantage of the beneficial qualities of juniper, neroli and geranium essential oils. Citrine, yellow jasper and tourmaline should be placed over this chakra centre for re-alignment. The musical note E resonates at the same vibrational frequency as the solar plexus chakra.
The fourth chakra is located in the center of the chest and is known as the “heart” chakra. It spins at the lightwave frequency of the color green. It’s element is air, ruling planet is Jupiter and it’s corresponding instruments are bowed. The sense associated with this chakra is touch. It’s purpose is the “love centre”. When balanced we feel complete and whole. We accept life, love and relationships. When imbalanced we can’t accept love given by others. The love we give is conditional with strings attached. Physical symptoms may include heart attack, high blood pressure, insomnia and breathing problems. Thyme and saffron can assist in balancing this chakra. Beneficial essential oils are bergamot, jasmine and rose. Crystals such as rose quartz and watermelon tourmaline are great for placing over this chakra centre. The musical note F resonates at the same vibrational frequency as the heart chakra.
The fifth chakra is located in the center of the throat and is known as the “throat” chakra. It spins at the light wave frequency of the color blue. It’s element is the ether, ruling planet is Saturn and it’s corresponding instrument is the voice. The sense associated with this chakra is hearing. It’s purpose is the “communication & expression centre”. When balanced we listen to our “inner voice”. We have trust and intuition and we understand the balance between expression, speech and silence. When imbalanced we fear judgment, rejection and silence. We have difficulties speaking and hearing the truth. Physical symptoms may include neck & shoulder aches and pains, thyroid problems, laryngitis and tonsillitis. Peppermint and cloves are beneficial for this chakra. Chamomile, lemon and myrrh are great essential oils to use, and crystals such as turquoise, aqua aura and aquamarine should be placed in the dip of your throat for balancing this chakra centre. The musical note G resonates at the same vibrational frequency as the throat chakra.
The sixth chakra is located on the forehead between the eyebrows and is known as the “third-eye” chakra. It spins at the lightwave frequency of the color indigo. It’s element is light, ruling planet is Uranus and it’s corresponding instruments are the woodwinds. The sense associated with this chakra is our sixth sense. It’s purpose is the “psychic centre”. When balanced we connect to the universe. We have a strong spiritual awareness and we apply this awareness and intuition into everyday life. When imbalanced we only see the obvious. We focus on science and intellect, and we reject spiritual and religious aspects. We fear and don’t understand intuition. Physical symptoms may include headache, vision problems, learning disabilities and even schizophrenia. Bay leaf and St. John’s wort are very beneficial for balancing this chakra. Essential oils like rosemary and juniper should be used, as well as, placing crystals of lapis lazuli, sodalite or kyanite over this chakra centre. The musical note A resonates at the same vibrational frequency as the third eye chakra.
The seventh chakra is located at the top of the head and is known as the crown chakra. It spins, much like a ceiling fan rotating in a clockwise motion, at the lightwave frequency of the color violet. It’s element is spirit, ruling planet is Neptune and it’s corresponding instrument is the gong. The sense associated with this chakra is cosmic awareness. It’s purpose is “thought & consciousness”. This is the gateway to the higher self. When balanced there is unity between the self and the divine. We live for the universal ego instead of the individual ego. We have a strong trust in divine guidance. When imbalanced we feel unsatisfied and depressed. We are unable to let go of fear and anxiety. We can’t imagine cosmic unity. Physical symptoms may include migraines, weak immune system, forgetfulness and sleep disorders. Try avoiding cigarettes, caffeine, drugs and alcohol. Incorporate more organic fruits and vegetables as well as breads which are baked with sprouted or whole grains. Soy products would also be beneficial. Essential oils of jasmine, lavender, sandalwood and neroli are helpful. Use crystals such as amethyst, clear quartz, gold topaz and sapphire for balancing this chakra centre. The musical note B resonates at the same vibrational frequency as the crown chakra.
When you are ready to make some time to take care of your mind, body & spirit, I highly recommend accompanying these suggestions with the CD by Steven Halpern called “Chakra Suite”. Play this disc while focusing on healing and balancing yourself.
Create a quiet space. Add elements such as candles for fire, a wind chime for air, a plant for earth and a small fountain for water. Wear loose comfortable clothing, use an aroma burner for your essential oils, and lay down placing the appropriate crystals over the corresponding chakra’s. Breathe deeply, in through the nose and out through the mouth. Visualize divine white light creating a prism of the rainbow to illuminate the chakra’s. Imagine breathing in healing light, love and positive energy. Exhale dark, negative thoughts, feelings and energy. These are the things we need to release and let go of. If you are unable to create a quiet, relaxing, “Zen” space at home, then go get a Reiki treatment done somewhere. Your mind, body & spirit will thank you for it! Wishing all of you much light and love.
