We all know of the significance of Winter Solstice; it’s the longest night of the year which means the end of the cycle of growing darkness, followed by 3 days of seeming rest, and then by the 24th of December we are already noticing an incremental lengthening of daylight. While the difference in measurable daylight time is initially miniscule, internally we feel the surge of the shift in power flowing through our veins.
We magically feel to have shifted our polar orientation. We are once again being released from the internal darkness and being drawn out toward the light. We are temporarily relinquishing our attraction to the internal feminine to willingly embody and interact more with the external masculine energies that the growing Universal light offers us. The power of the omnipotent Divine masculine is summoning our internal Divine Warrior to step forward into the light. We are infused with a desire to manifest ourselves in more powerful ways.
We eagerly step out in to the early dawning of a New Year and look about for ways to seize the day. Our energy is high as we emerge from the restful cave governed by the mother aspect. Full of the vim and vigor of the well-rested warrior we tend to create our new battle plans and strategies. It is a primordial force that beckons us forward, we respond without a thought. We obey the growing light excited to serve in our most honoured role and capacity, as champion of our destinies.
“People always want to change their lives instead of using their lives to wake up.”
– Chögyam Trungpa
It seems to be human tendency to want to change all that has not worked for us in the year just passed. In the growing light our inner warrior feels driven do something, anything, to strike out in the new day. This is the power of the rising light with in us that is magnetically attuned to the increasing light being offered from our Sun. People feel compelled to jump into their new plans, to begin living the changes that seem so possible in the early light of the year. It is not yet time however, to be doing anything; we’ve just opened our eyes after all. It’s only just time to wake up!
A life’s journey, no matter how long or short, is to manifest a purpose of individual soul intention. Caught up in the high drama and/or routines of physical life we often become blind and deaf to the insistent urgings of the soul. Our outer world is demanding and persuasive, calling all our minds’ attention and energy to satisfy our physical desires. Unfortunately the souls’ needs whispering through the heart may not be even remotely satisfied by those accomplishments. The resultant discord between heart and mind can become devastating to ones’ health and sense of wellbeing. To ease our suffering we instinctively strive to change our outer lives without ever hearing clearly what whispers from within. But the warrior will fail if he is not well equipped for the journey ahead.
Becoming the Light Warrior
In the energy of the rising sun, in the dawning of a new day we have the supported opportunity to wake up and become fully aware of what truly gives us happiness, security and peace. Just as jumping out of bed in the morning and running full steam into the day pushes the dream of the night even further back into the shadows, so does jumping into action too early in the new year alienate ourselves even further from our own truest selves no matter how strong your initial intention is.
Most new year’s resolutions and intentions are set from a keen desire to repair, improve, change and alter an existing chronic condition. It’s actually this feeling that things aren’t good enough in our lives that fuels the need to write the list in the first place. Eerily the new New Year’s list holds most of the same resolutions and intentions as the old New Year’s list. The wording might be different but the intention is the same; fix what’s broke and get more! Try harder!
If you see this happening on your list become aware that you have been in a deep sleep and are entranced in a walking nightmare. Give your head a shake to clear the cobwebs, splash some cold water on your face and sit down. Slowly, gently and fully grasp that you have been confined by a spell of sorts. You need to wake up, and start working consciously from the inside out.
To break the enchantment you need only ask yourself to consider what you really and truly want to grow in your life. This means you need to assess what you have done in the past, is your path easy or hard? Are you equipped with the proper tools and skills that will be required? Are you really going where you want to go? Do you end up lost in a maze of never ending battles and wrong turns? Does your journey satisfy your soul? Are you fighting the good fight for yourself or for someone else? These are questions necessary to your survival. It’s essential to wake up and intimately tend to your survival now!
Preparing for Victory
Learn to meditate, to sit patiently in the growing light and feel it expand into the tiny dark crevices of your body, mind and soul. Warm your essential being with the light of acceptance, forgiveness and self-love. Learn to be patient, tolerant and compassionate with your perceived shortcomings. Bring each aspect of yourself into the light and examine it carefully and tenderly. Own your choices and make new ones if you want to. Be kind, grateful and respectful of everything that no longer serves you and willingly release old patterns and habits without condition.
Come to understand that the Divine light warrior inside you wants to grow strong and be Champion, don’t let him go out into the world with old outdated, rusted, broken down tools that can’t serve him. Only when he is properly equipped with a shield of light, a sword of truth, a pure heart and clear centered mind will he be able to win your soul’s desire. Only then will you feel victorious in your life.
